Britney Spears may not have performed at the 2008 VMAs but that didn't stop her from being the talk of the evening and she won all three of the awards that she was nominated for. Her appearance and winning has been named the greatest comeback ever.
Just one year ago, her ill-fated VMA performance left people with their mouths hanging open and gave bloggers much to write about. Her dance routine was badly done to say the least, she seemed bored and/or out of it and many criticised her for being out of shape.
However, she's worked hard to get her life together (with the help of her father Jamie Spears), has gotten back in shape, stopped the crazy Starbucks runs (and the silly fake British accent talk) and is enjoying more time with her boys. That alone is something.
John Sewell of Onepoll, who hosted the UK survey said, "Brits love a success story and eight months ago it looked all over for Britney.
"In February we were gripped by reports she had been admitted to a pyschiatric unit and yet she managed to put in a controlled, composed and glittering appearance at the MTV awards.
"We're now all hoping a chart-topping album will prove that Britney really is back on form."
So Brit went from a public divorce from Kevin Federline, public breakdowns, losing custody of her sons - Sean Preston and Jayden James - courting crazy swarms of paparazzi, gas station pee stops and hospitalisations - that's a lot to overcome. But the former pop sensation did and she might just be a re-invented pop sensation. Looks like she's on her way.
