Remembering Chris "Lil Chris" Baker - Photos

Christopher "Lil Chris" Baker, who was the personal assistant and friend to Travis Barker, died in a fiery plane crash last Friday night.  He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.  Besides his parents and extended family, he leaves behind his wife, Jesse, and his two year old boy, Sebastian.  Chris was remembered by his home town....

Chris is being remembered in an article published by the sacbee.com:

Christopher Baker – a 29-year-old Roseville native whose love of cars drew him into the world of celebrities, rock 'n' roll stars and reality television – was one of the four people killed in the weekend South Carolina plane crash involving former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.

Known as 'Lil Chris by family and friends, the Roseville High School graduate was Barker's close friend and personal assistant. "Chris got to see the world with Travis," Baker's mother, Linda Warn, said Sunday at the Roseville family's home. "He went to Japan, Australia, almost all of Europe and every state in the continental U.S., I think.

"Once he called us at 3 a.m. just to tell us he was standing in front of the Mona Lisa."

The Van Nuys-bound Learjet carrying six people crashed shortly after takeoff from an airport in Columbia, S.C., late Friday, according to news reports.

Baker, along with another member of Barker's entourage, 25-year-old Charles Still, pilot Sarah Lemmon and co-pilot James Bland, were killed.

Barker and celebrity DJ Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM, were badly burned, but are expected to recover.

Baker is survived by his wife, Jessie, and toddler son, Sebastian. The couple would have celebrated their first wedding anniversary next month, Warn said.

"We've got Sebastian and we've got Jessie. So we still have Chris," Warn said.

Baker grew up working on cars with his stepfather Robert Warn, who helped him fix a 1953 Chevrolet. As a teen, Baker participated in the Roseville Police Athletic League's car program, where he'd spend hours under the hood at police headquarters.

"He loved working on cars," Robert Warn said. "He wanted to get them looking good before they ran."

After graduation, Baker started an auto detailing business that he later took to Los Angeles.

One of the first times Warn went to visit her son, she asked him what was so great about Southern California. That evening, Baker took her up a mountain where they could see the lights from the city.

"They looked like stars and he said, 'It's like living in heaven,' " Warn said. "He loved the people and he loved the fast pace. He wasn't uncomfortable around celebrities. He treated them like you or me."

Baker struck up a friendship with Blink-182's Barker about five years ago, when the two met at a gas station.

"Chris told Travis that he had a really nice car, but he needed to hire him to take care of it," Warn said.

The men quickly became friends and Baker spent a year touring with the drummer before being hired as his personal assistant.

In addition to concerts, Baker was seen in several episodes of "Meet the Barkers," an MTV reality show that followed Barker and his family.

"They were inseparable," Warn said. After the crash, the drummer was in critical condition with burns." Travis called Jessie and just kept saying, 'I lost our Chris.' He's devastated," the mother said.

The Warns said Baker always shared his good fortune with his family, frequently sending them products from from Barker's clothing line, Famous Stars and Straps.

When Robert Warn, an avid country music lover, couldn't take time off for a last-minute concert, Baker sent him a program signed by all the artists.

"It really warmed my heart," Robert Warn said.

Baker's death was the second tragedy to hit the family. Last month, Baker's 24-year-old stepbrother, Rob Warn, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Sacramento. Another son, James Warn, is 22.

"We're going to work it out. Chris would've wanted us to go on," Warn said. "Now they're both with God. We had our hands full with those two, so now God is busy."
