I took my two daughters to Miley Cyrus' Sweet 16 party at Disneyland last night. I'm deaf now because of all the screaming, but my girls told me in sign language that they had an awesome time.
That Miley knows how to throw a party. Disney estimates that over 5,000 people attended the soiree, which cost $250 a ticket and featured a short concert by Miley and her dad Billy Ray. Celebrity guests included Steve Carell, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford and David Archuleta. We saw all of them during the 'purple carpet' arrivals, but didn't see any of them roaming the park. I was disappointed, since I was looking forward to sitting real close to Carell on the Jungle Cruise and pretending he and I were on our honeymoon.
Miley's new boyfriend Justin Gaston joined Billy Ray on stage for a performance of "Achy Breaky Heart," and Billy Ray introduced him as "a family friend." I guess this means Justin gets the Cyrus stamp of approval; I remember my dad always introducing my boyfriends as "the bastard that's dating my daughter."
The evening ended with a huge fireworks display and the entire crowd singing Happy Birthday to Miley. It was almost 11:30pm by this point, though, so my two daughters were pretty much laying flat on their backs on Main Street asking for pillows. But still - Disneyland on a school night? They're the envy of all their friends. Like I said, that Miley knows how to throw a party.
