NY Jets Coach Eric Mangini Welcomes Baby Boy

Posted by Karl Erikson

Head coach of the New York Jets Eric Mangini and his wife, Julie, welcomed their third son yesterday morning. Zack Brett Mangini was born just before 8am on Friday, weighing in at 7 lbs 13 oz, measuring 20 inches, and demonstrating "very, very healthy lungs." Eric told reporters that the baby and mother are doing great.

Ironically, Zack shares his birthday with quarterback Brett Favre. Eric had promised Brett that he'd name his son after him if he joined the Jets, and Eric has kept his promise. This makes the third time a player's name has made its way into his kids' names. 4-year-old Jake Harrison is named after Patriots player Rodney Harrison, and 2-year-old Luke William is named after New England's head coach Bill Belichick.

Not that Eric expects his son to be a famous NFL player. He says, "Just judging by how I throw, and every male in our respective families throw, we tend to breed linemen on both sides."

Congrats to Eric and Julie on another boy.
