Jose Conseco Caught Smuggling Steroids

Posted by Karl Erikson

What do you know? Former baseball "great" Jose Conseco, father of daughter Josie, has been detained at the U.S./Mexico border for illegal posession of steroids. I KNOW! How shocked are you? Stunned, right?

Looks like Jose, who wrote a tell-all biography a few years ago about his use of steroids while playing major league ball, will be appearing in Federal Court on Tuesday.

Guess you can't unlearn stupid, can you?

It wasnt illigal steroids, it was a fertility drug to help him get his natural testosterone back up to normal.  And no charges were made against him. Give the guy a break.

I watched a disturbing A&E special on Monday, 10/20 re: Jose's career and subsequent downhill spiral.  By the end of the hour it was evident that he has a very long way to go in his recovery process.  There is so much ego involved which is to be expected, however, for a successful rehab logically he has got to let go of the career (which he chose to destroy), let totally go of the need for extravagant living, center his thinking not on his poor me attitude and get down to the business of thinking and living his recovery.  The rest:  his daughter, his sex life, etc. will fall in place.  He has no control now.  He really never had control of the steroids.  He made a conscious choice to use the blasted things and now it's going to take him a long time to recoup his life.  Hopefully, he didn't destroy his vital organs and shorten his life drastically.  It's time to get real and face the fact that baseball is history and that he has been given a chance to make another life for himself when so many others who chose to follow the path that he did do not get out alive.

Obviously, he needs real help. From one who's been in the pit of addiction and self-absorption, he needs to surrender his life to a God that absolutely will heal his heart, mind and body. I say we all offer him the grace we ALL need and pray for him. The only way UP is DOWN.

I remember standing outside the Athletic A's locker room just to get a glimpse, autograph of the great players like Jose Conseco and Mark McGuire, both signed my glove with smiles on their face.  In the late 80"s and early 90's most major league players were "juiced" up, while the officials and coach's turned their heads and probably encouraged it, because they wanted the World Series win!  What about Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire? Barry Bonds is still playing and Mark Mcguire has just celebrated his ten year aniversary of breaking Roger Maris's 61hr's in a single season. Why has Jose Conseco been treated differently then the rest? It is unfair!!

you are in the most denial I've ever seen.. you're obviously dating him or his daughter. From the birth of his book, and it's been a while, I'm supposed to feel bad for him now. Your opinion only appeals to family members feeding on proceeds from book sales!! get your own life!! Have some personal gump!!

bmorris is an idiot!  What are you trying to convey in your stupid message?  All that I can take out of what you said is that you are a mouthy person who values his own opinion but not the opinions of others.  Open your mind and have some empathy!  Now, let's see a little bit of that "personal gump".

I also watched the A & E documentary Monday nite.  Give him credit for trying to get off the steroids.  As he said himself, his biggest mistake was writing that book, hence his being an outcast in baseball.  In the A & E special one of the main concerns of the doctor and Jose was his testosterone level.  His was 140 something and normal levels are anywhere from the 200's to 400's.  He must feel awful all the time!  Yes, that is the result of 20 years of steroids, but he want to feel better. bmorris you might want to get your testosterone level checked (and it doesn't matter whether your a male or female) and maybe you'd feel better.  ).

He actually looks better since he's off the steroids. I played against his slow pitch softball team on Sunday and he looked skinny.  He injured his knee so I didn't get to see him play but in all he was a really cool guy.

I am watching the A&E special right now. It is sad. I really feel for the guy. To have it all and lose it is worse than never having it at all. He just admitted the worst mistake he ever made was writing his tell-all book. It went to comercial after that. I looked this up and am writing it durin the comercials.

Jose will be in my prayers now. I pray he finds the strength to get healthy and to love himself as he is a very kind and loving person and I do not believe he has a mean bone in his body. Everyone messes up! Its part of life and learning and forgiveness is key to forgive yourself Jose.

The bottom line is yes the book was not a good idea in retrospect but NO ONE deserves any title when rules are broken PERIOD. Steroids are cheeting period. Jose didnt ruin any ones life they did it to themselves. Keep strong Jose you are supported and loved xo Nina

I really enjoyed the Jose story. I never really knew the whole story behind the controversy but now it is much clearer. As far as Jose is concerned, I don't think he can continue to play the victim. The choices he made has put him where he is. He has got to suck it up and try to move on. I didn't like that he was ignoring his girlfriends daughter. She was not to blame for him losing his child in a divorce. That was selfish on his part and once again he is the victim. He seemed like a nice guy and is very regretful. As far as him being broke, I highly doubt that. The home he moved into and toys are definitely soup line material. I think he needs to change his way of living financially and emotionally. So Jose, if you read this I wish you all the best but you are the only one who can change you.
