Russell Crowe says that his two sons are complete opposites. He says that 4-year-old Charlie is the "deep thinker," often working his way through books and puzzles, much like his mom, Danielle Spencer. "I've heard him on more than one occasion say that football is really stupid," Russell jokes.
On the other hand, Tennyson (2), is "obsessed with anything with wheels." He also shares with his father a great love for athletics. Russell owns an Australian national rugby team and Tennyson loves the football. "When football is on, he actually gives me a little sparkly-eyed look," says daddy Russell. "He's connecting with that." Even now, months after the Olympics have finished, the family sits down to dinner and Tennyson says, "Lympics! 'Lympics!'"
Charlie's name, by the way, is a family name on both Russell's and Danielle's sides of the family. But Tennyson was a more creative choice. Joking with Russell, Danielle told him she liked the name Tennyson. Russell said, "What does it mean?" She answered, "Second born son of a loving father." "Really?" She said, "No, it means son of Dennis."
Crowe's latest film, "Body of Lies," is in movie theaters now. I haven't seen it because I hate war movies, but Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 51% freshness rating.
And for the record, football IS really stupid.
