Darius Rucker Jams With Country and Fatherhood

Posted by Karl Erikson

Darius Rucker was a rock star. Well, he was in Hootie and the Blowfish, at any rate. But now, Darius has made a huge switch over to country music with his album "Learn to Live" and switched over to a slower lifestyle, as well.

These days, Darius is a father. No more hard-core party days for this man. "I want to coach my little kids' football team and go to dance recitals," he says. "There was a time I wanted to be on the road all the time, being a rock star. I have different priorities in life."

God knows why, but Darius loves the country music...he says it's because of the "storytelling element." He was even inspired by his children on the new album. The song "It Won't Be Like This For Long" was written for his two daughters, ages 13 and 7. He's also arranging for his youngest's guitar lessons.

"My kids have to play an instrument," he laughs. "But trust me, I'm not going to teach my kids how to be a guitar player. I'm going to let someone else teach them."
