Please - Would Someone Put A Jacket On Suri?!!

Posted by Sassy Smith

Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise and their daughter Suri were spotted leaving their Manhattan apartment on Friday night - as in last night, October 31.  October in New York, while it can be lovely out, it's on the brink of November and the nights can (and do) get chilly.  Suri is two - do her parents not realize they should be dressing their child appropriately for the weather?  Both Katie and Tom are WEARING JACKETS.  The strangers in the background are WEARING JACKETS.  Why?  Probably because it's nippy out and they don't want to be cold.  I'm guessing Suri would appreciate the same convenience.

More pics after the jump!

I get it - they love their little princess wearing pretty dresses and maybe want everyone to see her lovely attire.  But seriously, the kid needs a coat on and really, is it that important to them that strangers gush over their daughter's clothing?  I would think their child's comfort and warmth would be slightly more important.  And her legs are bare!  Put a pair of freakin' tights on her - tights go with dresses - I have a daughter of my own and her dresses look just as beautiful with tights on her legs.  And guess what?  You can buy gorgeous little girl jackets that will look just fabulous over the pretty dress.  Get one.

Oh and to those who will say, 'but she's just going to the apartment to the waiting vehicle,' fine, but again, her parents are wearing jackets, and their legs are covered.  What about the times we see Suri out walking the streets of NYC with her mom and mom is wearing a coat but again, Suri is not?

Okay, off my soapbox now.  Oh, and Suri looks impressed - maybe she's COLD.

I totally agree. It's annoying and smacks of either vanity or overly permissive parenting. It's cold, put a damn jacket on your toddler for crying out loud.

Well, you know, she is two and might have her own ideas about if she wants to wear a jacket or not and trying to get her into one might result in a major temper tantrum in front of the whole world. Have you ever tried to force a two year old to do something they very much didn't want to do?  If she does refuse to wear a coat and has a fit then you people would be on her attacking them for how cruel they are to her because she is always upset and crying.

Sherry - I've had 4 kids who were all 2 year olds with their own ideas etc...but there were things that I put my foot down on - obviously having to sit in a carseat (had one kid who hated it) no if's, and's or but's.  And dressing for the weather was another.  I never gave a rat'a ass if my kids had a tantrum in public - let them scream it out (sure I wasn't followed by paparazzi but I got looks from people) but they're wearing a jacket when it's cold!

Relax people - it was 65 degrees in NYC yesterday!!  We took our daughter out trick or treating barefoot (she was in stroller and doesn't walk yet).  Suri is fine, it's just unseasonably warm here and Suri is one of the few not being persuaded by fall fashions and is appropriately dressed for this warm weather!!

I'm with Sherry--this uproar is ridiculous. The kid is outside for about 10 seconds, to go from the car to the front door and vice versa. She's not going to freeze in that amount of time.

a- I DO think she needs a coat- but I live in SoCal and at the first hint of cooler weather I break out the long sleeves- because I like them.

b- CINDY:That is a blanket around her- The white thing under the dress. Not that it's doing much good for her bare little legs...

c- I think there's some scientology thing about letting kids make their own choices- including freezing, apparently.

It's not just about this particular time - Suri and Katie were out the other day, and EVERYONE around (there's video too) was wearing a coat, it was windy and Suri had no jacket on. Her mother did, the bodyguard did - people around them - some even had hats and gloves on.  Suri had a short sleeved dress and no tights on. The poor kid must get cold sometimes!

Sassy, I agree with you. My toddler hates the car seat coats and hats, but they are not optional. If the parents and all the adults around them need jackets, so does the toddler.

i have little radiators for children. they are ALWAYS hot. but most importantly, they HAAAAAATE putting on coats, sweaters, ANYTHING. so if im just going from the house to the car and they're giving me all sorts of crap i'll just give in. no big deal, the car will be toasty in no time.
