Bad Parenting Or Genius? Britney Spears Uses Hot Sauce To Wean Son From Pacifier

Posted by Sassy Smith

Britney Spears is mom to two sons, 3-year-old Sean Preston and Jayden James, 2.  And according to sources, Brit is having a hard time weaning her oldest from his pacifier and since she proclaims herself as "country," she's using an old-school technique to help her do it.  Hot sauce....

Using Cajun hot sauce is apparently a "deep South" technique that helps parents wean their toddlers from using a pacifier.  Uh, I'm not from the South, but seriously, I've never heard of such a thing.

An insider tells Star, "Preston is still hooked on his pacifier, and Britney had to get creative to find a way to make him stop asking for it."

The source adds, "Just one dab of the spicy sauce, and Preston wants nothing to do with his 'paci.'"

Wouldn't it just be easier to take it away?  Trust me, I had one who was absolutely hooked - we took it away, gave her a present for being a big girl and that was the end of it.  No hot sauce needed.

I'm from the south and it is nothing wrong with the hot sauce to keep him from wanting the pacifier. It didn't hurt him and he doesn't want it anymore. It was something that as a child anyway he wouldn't need to use since it was spicy. And yes, she could have just taken it from him but I'm sure at this point he wants nothing to do with it vs. him asking for it later if she did just that it from him.

There was a big to-do about this method - Lisa Welchel (sp?) - aka Blair from Facts of Life - promoted this technique a few years ago on one of the morning talk shows.  I think she's Texan and I know she self-identifies as conservative Christian... I always associated hot saucing with those demographics as opposed to Britney's, but who knows?  Now I've heard of it twice!  Hah.  I'll never do it, but I'm a northern, earthy-crunchy, bleeding-heart liberal.    ;-)

Disgusting. There are better ways to parent. Only the lazy and borderline abusive would resort to something so nasty. Clearly, she's ill equipped to parent if she needs to use "old school" tactics like this. Poor kid.

Old school worked just fine for me and looking back my childhood was a very happy one. Get over yourselves spanking the kid and sitting them in a chair in time out or putting hot sause on something to get them to stop asking for a paci does not hurt them and is a far cry from abusive behavior.

Oh, just get off your self righteous soap box.  You bribed your kid to give up the pacifier.  I think that is bad parenting.

Sherry I didn't say it WAS bad parenting - I just asked the question (but I personally wouldn't use hot sauce).  And I didn't bribe my child - I told her it was time to give it up and she gave it to me.  She was rewarded for her "big girl" decision AFTER the fact.

I'm from NYC and I've heard of it.  (My grandma was from South Carolina.)  It won't kill him.  They do it with thumbs too.

i wouldn't personally do it. It seems so MEAN. They have tiny little tongues that haven't experienced loads of flavors and then to be hit with THAT. Seems cruel.

lmao. I (a Yankee) do the same thing to my husband (from the south) to get him to stop chewing his finger nails. They actually sell a bitter you can use... not as bad as SOME things. The whole "whiskey on the gums" advice for teething always bothered me.

As if that moron would hav the brains to think to take the pacifier away.  Fake story and the nanny is the one that will break his habit eventually.  Brit just visits those kids once a day or so.
