Celine Dion's Son Doesn't Want A Haircut

Canadian singer Celine Dion's seven-year-old son René-Charles, has really long hair, I mean really long.  Dion takes a lot of flack for it, but she said he's never wanted a haircut and she hasn't forced the issue.  What do you think?  Is hair a big enough deal to make an issue out of it or should parents pick their battles, leaving hair out of it?

Dion's son isn't the only celebrity boy with long hair - there's Ryder Russell, son of Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson, who has very long hair too, just like his dad.  Cindy Crawford's boy, Presley Walker, 9, has really long hair.  Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew  Broderick's son, five-year-old James is sporting a longer do.  Longer hair on boys is so in right now - my own pre-teen son has long hair and it was super long a few months ago - so long in fact, that he was being called a girl when we went out in public.  Mind you, it wasn't as long as René-Charles' hair, but he could have let it get that long if he wanted.

Celine told Oprah on a recent appearance:  "We decide as a family what's good for us.  And that includes hairstyles."  Celine said that her son has never had a haircut because the kid just doesn't want one.  "I've asked him, and he says, 'I like my hair like that.'"

I've never had hair battles with my kids - my 3 sons and daughter have always had the freedom to have their hair the way they like it.  Sure, there were styles that my two older sons (now adults) sported that I didn't like, but so what?  It's hair.  It grows out, grows back, goes back to it's original color.  I say, big deal.  Pick your battles - if the kids are doing their best in school, have manners, are respectful and are generally all-around good kids, who cares if they have long hair, pink hair or want to shave their head bald?  Let's just hope that the 'mullet' doesn't come back in style.

Who cares? As long as the kid cares for the hair they have, it shouldn't be an issue. It's the same policy my parents used for my sister and I. I remember my sister was about five and had to have six inches cut off her hair because she didn't brush it often enough and it got all ratty. After that, she's always been very careful about her hair, and it's still halfway down her back now that she's seventeen.

Now that his hair is much longer, he looks less like a girl and more like a little rocker dude.  For a while he had prettier hair than Celine with wavy curls, etc.

You're right.  Hair should not be an issue.  Those heels, however, wow!  I am jealous of women who can walk in those things holding hands with their children...I have to hold hands with the nearest rail when I wear heels.
