Britney: For the Record aired Sunday night on MTV - did you watch? The documentary was a way for Spears to answer those questions that everyone's been asking for the past couple of years - like why did you shave your head? And why did you marry Kevin Federline? And why did you forget to wear panties way back when? MTV said "No topic was off limits. No question went unanswered," but really, were they truly answered?
Britney did answer some questions sure, but some of her answers seemed vague and others just weren't answered at all.
About marrying Kevin she said, "I just did it because, for the sake — the idea of everything, and um, it just led me on a weird path." Um, huh? Okay, yes, she's saying (I think) that she married him for the wrong reasons, but, we knew that, right. See what I mean about vague?
When they broke up, she admits she fled her home and her kids - "I just remember I did not want to be at home." She said, "when I was in my car and when I was driving, I was going somewhere."
About her head shaving, Britney said, "I was going through so much artificial stuff with my kids and Kevin at the time. He'd just left me and I was devastated. ... People shave their heads all the time." She said it was "a little bit of rebellion, or feeling free, or shedding stuff that had happened, you know?" I've been through a breakup or two of my own - never once did I shave my head. Must be a celebrity thing.
Spears said there's stuff that we don't know about her - but yet, doesn't really give us anything that would give us much insight into the 'real' Britney.
She talked about feeling like "a prisoner," but doesn't mention her parents' role in her life, her legal situation with her kids or the conservatorship.
Britney also doesn't take much (or any) of the blame for how things ended up so badly for her. Yes - we saw the riff raff that clung to her and people who were clearly taking advantage of her during her difficult period, but at the same time, you have to own up to your part in whatever situation you've found yourself in. We didn't really see that from Spears. The paparazzi gets a lot of blame - and I can't disagree with her there.
We see that her dad is with her most of the time, and although some view him as a creepy stage dad, I think if it weren't for him, Britney wouldn't be here. Or she'd, at the very least, still be suspended in the purgatory she found herself in last year. Call him what you will, but it's clear his actions have helped his daughter.
Britney said she tries to make her life "as normal as possible, for me." She did admit, "there's no excitement, there's no passion. It's just like Groundhog Day every day." You do have to feel sorry for her - I can't imagine living the kind of life she does.
I do think that the documentary will do what it was intended to do - give her public persona a positive boost and her 'fans' will definitely feel for her and this show (which MTV will air 100 times no doubt!) will help her comeback (although Britney hates that term) career.
Near the end, Spears breaks down and starts to cry - she's talking about the people in her life who she speaks to, but who apparently don't hear what she's saying. In one, rare, revealing moment, Brit says, "I'm sad."
It's no doubt, probably pretty difficult living the life that she does, and hopefully for her sake and her sons', she can find a way to make the best of it.
Spears said, "I love what I do. I love my babies. And I work really hard. It's weird. You can see the cruelest part of the world and then on the other side you see the most beautiful. ... But they're worth it. ... I've been to both places."
