Country singer Mindy McCready is said to be in stable condition after police report that she cut her wrists and took several pills in an apparent suicide attempt. Nashville police said McCready’s brother, Timothy McCready, discovered the singer in her bloody bed on Wednesday, several hours after she returned from a night out. He told police his sister had been “very intoxicated”.
McCready, 33, has been struggling for the past few years with legal and personal problems that have included drug charges, probation violations and previous suicide attempts.
According to the Nashville police report, the singer called her mother and told her “she had seen her angel baby.” This prompted the mother to call Timothy McCready to check on her.
He told police he found her stumbling in the kitchen but she seemed fine and she returned to her room. He went to check on her again after he woke up later that morning and discovered she had cut her wrists and ingested several pills.
This latest incident is a sad chapter in McCready's obviously turbulent life, and no doubt traumatic for her all her family and friends. But I'm curious to know why none of the stories I've read mention where McCready's 2-year-old son Zander Ryan McCready has been through all of this. In 2005 the boy's father, McCready's ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after beating and choking McCready. Let's hope little Zander is somewhere far away from all this chaos.
