So Much For Tom Cruise Not Talking Scientology

Posted by Karl Erikson

So much for not talking any more about Scientology. I didn't think that would last long. Just last month, Tom Cruise told Matt Lauer on the Today Show that he was sorry about the anti-psychiatry rant of 2005...he'd be quiet about the cult from now on. Yeah, right.

Perhaps he is staying mum about the religion in the States, but not so for Spanish folks. He told a Spanish magazine that he "cured" his dyslexia with Scientology. According to "XL Semanal":

"Actor Tom Cruise said Scientology teachings helped him overcome childhood dyslexia. Cruise was quoted as saying he was diagnosed with the learning disability when he was 7 years old. Cruise said he was often anxious, frustrated and bored as a youth and couldn’t concentrate in class."

"Tom said he was functionally illiterate when he graduated from school in 1980, but learned to read perfectly as an adult through Scientology technology."

It's weird, L. Ron Hubbard, the late sci-fi author, was a great storyteller. "Battlefield Earth," despite its godawful movie translation starring John Travolta, is a great book. The fact that anyone decided to rally around "Dianetics" with some cult religion is just bizarre to me. I almost think Hubbard is laughing from above at what idiots people can be.

The "Study Tech" of Scientology is often discredited by experts in education. Apparently, Tom knows that Americans are a tad too smart to buy into that crap, but he doesn't think as highly of the Spanish people. Bad form, Tom, bad form. Your dyslexia wasn't "cured" by Scientology. That's like saying you can "cure" bipolar disorder.
