Saying Goodbye: Jett Travolta's Funeral

Posted by Sassy Smith

We reported earlier that Jett Travolta's funeral would be held Tuesday January 6, in Ocala, Florida, but it's believed the service will be held on Thursday, January 8.

Jett's body was cremated (common in Scientology) Monday, in the Bahamas, and friends say that the Travoltas were too upset to attend the cremation ceremony. The family flew back to Florida to make the final arrangements for their 16-year-old son, who passed away on January 2.  His official cause of death has been listed as "killed by seizure."

The memorial is not believed to be open to the public, and held in the afternoon. Several celebrities are expected to attend, including fellow Scientologists, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.  Jett's ashes will be scattered or buried near the family home in Ocala.  The front gate of their home has been adorned with flowers, condelence messages and candles since Jett's death.

John, Kelly and daughter Ella, thanked the public for their support and wrote this about their dear son:

"Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives. We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us ahope for a brighter future."

We express our condolences to the Travolta family on the passing of their beloved son -- Jett. No words could ever replace the emotions that your family is fealing at this time. However, we believe that each of us has a purpose and it is not the quantity of live but the quality of life that matters the most -- although hard it is to understand. Our niece, Melanie age 17, passed away unexpectedly also on June 14, 2007. The exact cause of her natural death is unknown but it may have been Viral Meningitus. We miss her very badly even today -- 19 months later. Once again our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

My heart goes out to the family of Jett Travolta.  I lost my first born, only son 10 years ago at the age of 28 and my life has never been the same.  The pain in indescribable, but I would never had not wanted to have him for the period of time that I did.  His memory is with me every day in everything that I do.  The photos and videos I have are a constant reminder of how lucky I was to have had him for the brief time that I did.  I know only too well that John, Kelly and Ella will have a huge loss in their heart that know one can heal.  I truly hope the tabloids and media will give them the privacy and peace they so need.  Much love to all the family!

No one should ever have to bury a child - it goes against natural progression. As a mother of three young sons, this tragedy has only made me hug them that much more, each and every day. It's a stark reminder to never take life for granted. My heart goes out to your family - you are in my thoughts and prayers.

There are some things in life that we will never understand no matter how strong our faith may be.  All we can do is put on our armour and put one foot in front of the other and keep on walking for the person we lost.  I wish you and your family the peace that surpasses all understanding which only comes from our Creator.  And NEVER for one moment blame yourself.  You were all a blessing to Jett as he was to you.
