Heath Ledger's Insurance Case Closed- Finally

Posted by trix

It's been a long, sad year in the life of Matilda Ledger. As time goes on, the pain fades and you are left with your memories, which is a blessing.

The insurance policy Heath took out on his life was for 10 million and of course, the insurance had to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of his death. The company wanted to make sure that Heath didn't commit suicide, which the doctors said with in the first few days but the Insurance Company didn't want to listen.

The attorney for Heath Ledger's estate claimed the insurer was refusing to pay because it wanted to investigate whether Ledger's death was a suicide.

A settlement has now been reached in the situation and will be brought forth before the court next month to finalize the agreement.

I'm not sure why it had to be settled though, because a 10 million dollar life insurance policy is a 10 million dollar policy. Why would they settle? Maybe I'm naive, but I don't understand.

At least it's done now, because no one wants to have to fight the insurance company on a daily basis.

heath and matilda's lawyers filed suit to get the insurance payment released.  heath took out the policy in good faith and passed away due to an accidental overdose.  what right does the insurance carrier to try and go against the coroner's reports?  they were just hoping to get out of paying the face value of the policy.  nothing more, nothing less.  claiming that heath suicided is not based in reality, just business.  maybe they thought that heath's attorney and matilda's attorney wouldn't carry the suit through to fruition, but at that time when they lost they would be subject to punitive damages as well.  the suit was scheduled to be heard in court in the very near future and the insurance company quit dicking around  their case wasn't particularly strong.
