Octuplets Mom Nadya Suleman: Angelina Jolie Wannabe?

Posted by Sassy Smith

I wonder if Nadya Suleman, the 33-year-old woman who gave birth to octuplets (which now puts her kid count to 14), expected all the media attention (and for the record, not all of it good) that she's now getting?  After giving her first interview with NBC's Ann Curry, some are claiming she must have an Angelina Jolie obsession.  Does she?

Does Suleman have some sort of compulsion to be like Angelina Jolie?  It's been speculated that Nadya's even had plastic surgery on her face - she does sort of resemble Jolie, with the pillowy lips and a similiar nose.  And, as is quite evident, she likes having lots of kids.  Although to be fair to Angelina, she hasn't had 8 babies at once and even if she did, she could at the very least, pay for them.

When I first heard (and then wrote) about this story, I thought, like a lot of others, what a heartwarming situation it was.  A woman (who, some people, myself included) assumed must not have been able to have children (imagine the shock when we all learned she has six other children!), but then with the help of IVF treatments, was given 8 miracle babies.  Oh how things change.

Nadya Suleman has a very long, hard road ahead of her.  I just hope her children don't have to pay the price for that (I'm doubtful though).  She says she's neither irresponsible or selfish.  I think she's very much both.

Both seem like baby-collecting media whores.  They even look alike.  Nadya is bringing her kids up on welfare - I guess her food stamps and financial assistance checks have taken a big boost thanks to the American taxpayers.  Angie can foot the bill for her kids, but I think they're both looney tunes

people who say the parent(s) are being selfish is wrong if you can afford them. Yes, its a big risk to having that many children, but its a blessing to. No, not everyone can have children, but its not worth calling someone selfish because they have more than one child, even if its eight. At least she is determind, and not a bum.

As soon as they showed her face, I knew she had an Angelia obsession.  Way obvious!!! And shame on Ann Curry for not bringing it up.  Nadia, who was I'm sure paid very well for this interview, probably specified, in the contract, that any correlation to Jolie not be mentioned brought up.

Not a bum???!!!  She is living on disability checks, your money and mine.  She is a criminal as far as I can see, and she is ugly gross.  Who paid for this insemination habit of hers???  They should set the "sperm donor" up for child support payments.  This is just a scam and the little kids are going to be the ones paying for it.

A media whore, a govt. funding whore...and no one would have  sex with her cuz she is UGLY and mentally OFF.

She's doing it for the sensationalism and she admitted that she was ''fixated'' on having kids and wasn't thinking that it was gonna be this many.

It *is* irresponsible and selfish if you're a single, unemployed mom and you have 14 kids, 8 of whom are newborns with potential disabilities. Regardless of how well weaning you are it is extremely unfair to those children and the taxpayers that have to fund their health and rehabilitation.

Even if she could afford them, and who knows, maybe she can make a buck or two exploiting them through the media, there are still not enough hours in the day for one woman to care for octuplet newborns and 6 children under the age of 7. Impossible. So yes, she is selfish and irresponsible *even if* she can afford them.  She's just even more selfish and irresponsible because she can't afford them.

Children deserve better.

@ Elizabeth - she's determined and not a bum?  Determined to do what?  And just because she's not on a street corner with a sign and her hand out, doesn't mean she won't be draining the system.  And putting money aside - it's not humanly possible for ONE person to give enough attention to FOURTEEN YOUNG CHILDREN.  She's selfish and her obsessive focus on "having babies" is not normal.  You don't have children to fill some sort of void.  Suleman honestly needs her head examined!

Now the octuplets will be raised by taxpayers and will be at high risk for disabilities.

Shame on everyone who is passing judgment on this poor woman. The point is. NOT ONE of you know her, the life she grew up with and the challenges she has had (and will continue to face thanks to busy-bodies like yourselves.) How come it is okay for married women, particularly those who follow certain religious beliefs, to do the same thing that Nadya chose to do, yet Nadya is the one who is being condemned? Whether or not pursuing IVF was a poor decision, the fact remains is that it was HER decision to make. That is the beauty of living in America: NEWSFLASH: Women have rights! I ask that all of you look at your OWN lives and find an instance where you were judged by an outsider. It happens to all of us, even the best of us. What is it with you people defending this crazy woman. She is clearly playing the system and has serious mental issues. The reason everyone is so upset is that she has had these children with no means to support them. That is the ultimate slap in the face to tax payers. Sure, it should be there for people who fall on hard times but she did all this to herself. I have no sympathy for her. Social Services should come in immediately and study this situation for the sake of all the kids. I also believe that the State of California should hold off with assistance to the hospital that delivered the babies and get it from any book deal or tv if she even gets that. She is Toxic to corporations right now so no probably no real donations to speak of.How can they when they are laying off people and making employees take pay cuts. This lady is sick and I feel sorry for her parents who have been parenting/supporting her and all her kids and now 8 more for years. What a pathetic story.

It is ridiculous to say it is none of anyone's business.  She made it the world's business when she went on television. She made it taxpayer's business when she has 3 children on disability and gave birth to 8 more.  The fertility clinic she used is very controversial and she freeloads off of her parents.  She's obviously had in excess of $10,000 worth of face work done, taxpayers are going to have to pay the bill for the birth of the last eight children.  These poor children don't really have a chance unless they are taken away from her or she gets serious mental help.  If six kids were not enough to make her feel loved, do you think 8 more that she is unprepared for financially or mentally are going to help?

You have no proof that she is crazy or dangerous to her kids.  Most of the comments are judgements not facts. And to the person who made the Arab comment -  your racist views are disgusting.

This woman made several willing choices

She chose to have 6 kids even when she couldn't afford them.

She chose to have 8 more that she couldn't afford.

3 of the kids have either psychiatric or development mental handicaps.

Can we be sure neglect didn't have a hand in that?

The problem with getting child welfare in there is neglect is awfully hard to prove

Even if you get those kids out some hob nob lawyer will take the case pro bono just for publicity.

I know people who are 33 and are struggling to find work and need to beg for $150 here and there to make ends meat.

This woman is costing CA * millions of dollars. *

somewhere DSM *** needs to come up with a mental illness diagnosis for this. *** It is madness but it is also a formed of learned choice.

She is choosing to manipulate the system.

She is choosing to tear at heart strings and has the gall to ask for payments for her kids online?

She has chosen to bring in far too many sprites into this world that she is absolutely unable to care for.

She has chosen to vampirize and manipulate too much, and the taxpayers are the ones who are set up to take the hit.

But ultimately this is a woeful harm to the children even if it falls below a detention hearing because there is no way she can adequately care for those childrens social, medial, hygienic and dietary needs.

She will need ongoing case management services and safety services just to make sure that she is ok.

and the disturbing thing is somehow she is trying to get her Masters in Counseling?!

Nadya Suleman is obviously emotionally disturbed as well as being supremely stupid, greedy, and opportunistic. She and her backers have badly misjudged the climate of the times; the American taxpayer is infuriated with the leeches and parasites that have attached themselves to the body politic and are the unfortunate spawn of both Wall Street and Main Street.

Just as we shouldn’t have to bail out mismanaged banks and car makers, we should not have to pay for the selfish and shortsighted behavior of this unbalanced woman. Her children are to be pitied because they have a whiny, self-serving dolt for a mother. They will also be followed by the disgrace of how they were brought into this world throughout their lives. And if they remain with Suleman, what kind of upbringing will they have? Can they avoid being buried by an avalanche of filthy clothes and diapers? Will they receive even a modicum of attention from their self-absorbed, immature, and foolish mother? The octuplets should be removed from Suleman’s custody, and any of her ill-gotten gains should be placed in trust (administered by a non-family member) to help offset the enormous cost that will accrue as these children face the numerous physical challenges (and probably emotional and developmental problems as well) that will haunt at least some of them all their lives. Suleman should be institutionalized for her own (and the world’s) protection before she spawns again. Additionally, the incompetent and egomaniacal doctor who was behind this abomination and Suleman’s sperm donor should be held accountable to the taxpayers of California as well.

And as for Suleman’s defenders who say that it’s nobody’s business how many children Suleman has and how they got here, Suleman’s mouthpieces should remember that with freedom must come responsibility. Freedom become sociopathy when it impinges on the rights of others; taxpayers did not ask for this responsibility and feel that being forced to pay for Suleman’s stupidity and blatant greed interferes with their own rights. They deeply resent the bill for the Suleman fiasco that is starting to come due just as their own bills keep piling higher and higher. Perhaps taxpayers should have the freedom to say no to supporting this despicable woman.

It is obvious that her physician is unethical.

Is anyone going to hold these two accountable for causing children to be brought into the world without financial support? Are the taxpayers responsible for these children?

I do hope that this doctor is seriously sanctioned for this irreponsible act.

I also hope that most, if not all of the children are removed from this woman's home and adopted to other family  and that help is provided for the remaining children within their hope.  Perhaps a social worker can provide supervision. I do hope this mother receives the ongoing and frequent mental health counseling and probably stablization medication that she likely needs.

I'm just curious...how does she actually plan to finish her graduate school education and care for her kids...and seriously, what kind of high paying job does this woman thinks she's going to find in the mental health field (at any time and especially in this economy) to support herself and 14 children and pay back her loans.  If/when she actually completes her masters degree she'll still have at least 2 years of intern-level work to complete before she can work under her own license.  Even with a license, you don't earn enough to support a family that big and pay back your loans. And lets just pretend for a second that she could, she'd have to work WAY more than full time to bring that kind of income. If she works WAY more than full time, who's going to watch and raise the children. That doesn't sound like the kind of mother she would like to be - one who hands all her precious angels off to someone else to raise...None of this makes any logical sense. This infuriates me as a tax paying citizen, mother and mental health professional.

Layne, seriously, can you read?  Have you seen her before and after pictures?  She has had extensive plastic surgery to look the way she currently does.  She was not born with that face, but had it made for her.  Almost everyone wants certain things that are not practical and as a sign of MATURITY they work for them.  They do not leach off of their parents and welfare.  Next time do a little bit of research before you run your young naive mouth off at people who understand matters better than yourself.  It IS greedy and disgusting to conceive six children, redesign your face to resemble a celebrity, and then decide to have more children.  A large family isn't a bad thing, unless the person is not in a position to care for all of its members.

I don't think she is kidding.. said:

Seriously, what kind of children (like Layne) are we raising in this country that they think it isn't greedy or selfish to have other people foot the bill for you?

Look kiddo, let me break it down for you. People are upset because she chose to have more children (artificially) when she could not afford to take care of her previous 6. It wasn't like she wanted one more and then BAM 8! She had 8 eggs implanted, when the normal procedure for a woman under 35 is 2-3. It isn't like she had trouble conceiving the kids because her previous 6 were beget. When you are an adult and (hopefully) get a job, you get a paycheck. You wake up every morning, do whatever your boss says, come home, pay bills and take care of your family. Oh, and I forgot to mention that a chunk of that paycheck you get off your butt to endlessly earn is going to go to a woman like this. That chunk gets taken away from your own children, their college, your food, your bills and your rent. It isn't that small of a chunk either. Don't think it is like 50 bucks or something. And this woman is okay that her kids will go without a lot of basic things. She is okay that she is taking no responsibility for her children. Does that sound like an awesome mom to you? They are also upset because that plastic surgery had to cost at least 10k. Don't you think that 10k was better spent on her children? Maybe to provide care for her Autistic son? Would you want to share a 3BR house with 13 brothers and sisters? Also your mother, grandma and grandpa? Think not.

In the end, you will undertstand when you grow up, get a job, and hopefully earn your own keep.

To the MENSA member that claims Angelina Jolie is the poster child for over-populating the world......

Angelina has 3 bio children and a 4th on the way. All her other kids have been adopted. Adopted kids don't contribute to overpopulation, they already exist. And I don't think 4 bio kids is particularly excessive. I expect Pax, Zahara, and Maddox are living a better life than they would have had otherwise.

I remember a year and a half ago Angelina saying she'd like to have 14 kids, that 14 was the ideal number of children for her and Brad. Um. Nadya Suleman *coincidentally* has plastic surgery that resembles  Angelina *AND* 14 kids? Hmm.....  I'm betting the only reason she didn't adopt them was she didn't have the funds nor would she have been approved by any agencies that place adopted children.
