Tennis Star Kim Clijsters is returning to competitive tennis, just two years after announcing her retirement at the young age of 23. I'm starting to not believe anyone when they say they're retiring anymore, because they only come back a couple of years later. I'll bet Clijsters' friends are wondering why they threw her that big retirement party, and are going to be wanting their gifts back pretty soon.
And Clijsters sounds like she's coming back in a big way. "I intend to play in the US Open and almost certainly in the tournaments at Cincinnati (early August)- my first official tournament back - and Toronto," she said at a press conference in her hometown. "I have been practicing on a regular basis with my training partner Wim Fissette and by physical coach Sam Verslegers, sometimes as much as six hours a day. The desire is back."
The former World No. 1 player retired back in May of 2007 after being sidelined by injuries and eager to start a family with her new husband, basketball player Brian Lynch. The couple welcomed daughter Jade Elie in February 2008.
I wonder if Clijsters was inspired by expectant dad Roger Federer, who is determined not to let impending fatherhood affect his game.
