Tennis star Roger Federer wed his longtime girlfriend - former WTA tennis player - Miroslava "Mirka" Vavrinec on Saturday, in Switzerland. The couple are also expecting their first child this summer.
Federer wrote on his personal blog:
"Earlier today, in my hometown of Basel, surrounded by a small group of close friends and family, Mirka and I got married. It was a beautiful spring day and an incredibly joyous occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Federer wish all of you a Happy Easter weekend."
Last month, Federer wrote about their exciting baby news:
"Mirka is pregnant and we are so happy to be starting a family together. This is a dream come true for us. We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well."
The World No. 1 adds that his earnings will come in handy once the couple's baby is born. "We have the financial background. Traveling - we can make it easy. Hotels - we can make it easy."
Roger said Mirka will relish in her new role as "mom" but probably won't be one to stay home all the time.
"I just think she’ll drop all the stuff she’s been doing so far and just become a mother, what she’s always wanted to be. She told me she still wants to travel as much as possible. We’ll see how that turns out. We don’t know yet, but I’m sure we’ll find good solutions."
Federer said once he's a dad, he'll still make decisions "that are best for my game."
Adding, "I have had a team in the past, there’s just an added a member. It’s going to be all right."
