TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Kate Gosselin, after all of the speculation about her husband Jon's alleged affair, is staying strong. The mom of multiples - a set of twins and sextuplets - is putting her focus on the children and taking it one day at time.
Kate has always relied on her faith in God and family to get her through tough situations and she's not changing that now.
At a recent taping of The Rachel Ray Show (which is set to air Tuesday), Kate said, "It's one of those things that we're just handling privately. We're just taking it one step at a time and I'm trying to walk through it."
She added, "The focus remains on our kids. It has always been there and will continue to be there. One day at a time, like we've always done. One hour at a time, one minute at a time, and my life's been like that."
How is the mom of eight handling the media attention?
"It's definitely another learning experience. I look at life through the eyes of my kids in that I've always said life experiences... I feel like you can learn something from every situation and I am absolutely learning a lot from this."
Kate admits neither she or Jon expected all of the attention when they decided to do a reality show about their family life.
"Certainly none of this could have been predicted. Now going into our fifth season, we have stepped back and realized that it is part of this process, and I always say there's really never any going back. We just need to go forward. That is my new saying -- just keep on marching through this. Just doing what we need to."
Kate says she will put her energy into her kids and being a mom.
"I know that I’m continuing on as I am the best mom I know how to be and that's really where my focus is. I really try not to let any of that stuff that comes with it get to me."
And the 34-year old makes no apologies for who she is - some view her as controling and combative.
"Just to put it out there, I am who I am," she said. "I do not care how you see me. Call me crazy, but it's out there because I am not perfect and I will never boast that I'm perfect. Everyone makes mistakes."
Jon, too, says his family is his number one priority. Speaking to PEOPLE, the reality star dad said:
"These allegations are false and just plain hurtful. As I adjust to the attention that comes from being in the public eye, I need to be more careful and aware of who I am associating with and where I am spending my time. But the bottom line is, I did not cheat on Kate. I am sorry for putting my family in this awkward position, given some poor decisions and bad judgments I've made recently."
He adds, "I am working through this difficult time with my family. My family is my top priority."
I think this couple will pull through - perhaps they've hit a rocky patch in the road, but I'm sure they will put their family first.
