The news, the other day, that Anne Heche lost custody of her son Homer caused more than a few people to gasp, I'll bet. Sure, she seems a little - what's the word? - crazy, but isn't everyone in Hollywood crazy? If crazy was grounds for removing children from their celebrity parents, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes would never have even gotten started on their little Scientologist incubation project. So I don't think that anybody was expecting, really, that Ms. Heche would have her little boy torn from her arms.
Well, according to TMZ, we all expected right, and the gossip channels got it wrong: Anne Heche did not, in fact, lose custody, they say. She only lost some custody.
Oh, okay.
TMZ says that the actual ruling was for 50-50 shared physical custody whenever Anne is Los Angeles. Her soon-to-be-ex, Coley Laffoon, will have full custody whenever Anne is working on location (and receive full spousal and child support from her), but the rest of the time custody will be shared. The thing is, Anne's television series, Men in Trees, shoots in Canada, where she reside for the duration of shooting. For, like, a good portion of the year, during which time the boy lives with his father and she is restricted to visitation on alternate weekends.
Sounds like she lost a pretty hefty share of custody to me. Kudos, then, to TMZ, for setting the facts straight, but I think that we can safely continue to gasp and wring our hands - or chuckle meanly (not that I'm recommending this, but I know that some of you are doing it) - at the plight of poor Anne.
