Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, is not headed to jail, entering Promises
or being treated for an eating disorder. Instead, she's carrying on
her father's legacy in her own TV show, 'Bindi: The Jungle Girl' that
will soon debut on the Discovery Kids Channel. Crikey! Where did her parents
go wrong?
I admit to not being a close follower of Steve Irwin's career. In fact, when he was killed last fall by a stingray I wasn't sure who he was and recall telling my husband, "Crocodile Dundee died today!" But I remember Bindi's brave appearance at her father's memorial service and was touched by clips of her and Irwin appearing together in episodes of one of his popular documentaries. I remember also cringing when I realized that if they were to make a film at that moment of the legacy I had passed on to my children, it would consist entirely of scenes of us knocking back Frappuccinos at Starbucks and racing through the aisles of Target.
Adding to my desire to become president of the Bindi Fan Club is this quote: "I'm proud to be showing kids that
conservation and helping wildlife is a stack of fun. It's just the most amazing thing that we could ever do,"
Go Bindi! And whatever you do, stay the hell away from Lindsay.
