I'm of two minds on the issue of how Teri Hatcher dresses her nine-year-old daughter, Emerson Rose (shown here arriving at the pre-wedding dinner for Eva Longoria and Tony Parker). On the hand, the halter-top dresses and heels are a tad too sexy for a young girl (a view that I share with our own Alisyn). This is dressing to attract - drawing attention to the chest and legs - and there's no doubt in my my mind that nine is too young to be tarting it up to show off one's feminine assets. On the other hand, it could be much worse: shouldn't we be grateful that Emerson isn't a student of the Britney Spears School of Fashion For Young Skank-Hos Women?
Still, as I said above - skanky or not, the slinky halter dress and pointy-toed kitten heels are designed for the purposes of attraction. The girl is nine, people. That's three years younger than Lolita.
So, okay, fine: it's not streetwalker wear (Ms. Hatcher, Senior, reserves that look for herself). It's higher class than streetwalker wear. But there is such a thing as a high-class hooker - ladies whose come-hither looks are more subtle, but nonetheless come-hither - and you would think that any self-respecting parent would steer clear of directing their pre-pubescent children to fashion choices that evoke that particular style.
Oh, right. I said self-respecting. I forgot that we were talking about Teri Hatcher.
