I
had a kind of crush on Ricardo Montalban when I was kid. It was the
kind of crush where I wanted him to be my Grandpa (I had this thing
about my Grandma where I thought that she was the very model of an
old-timey Hollywood movie star - she was kinda glam - and it seemed to
me that Ricardo Montalban (Montalban circa Fantasy Island, I hasten to
add - not Montalban of Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan) was the perfect
match for her. My own Grandpa seemed kinda grumpy and dull; Ricardo was
sauve and magical, and, also, he had Tattoo, who was like the world's
most awesome sidekick and I figured that he could be my friend.
Anyway. Ricardo Montalban died today in Los Angeles and I'm kinda sad about it.
