Ben Folds is cool. It's a fact. His new album "Way to Normal" hit stores (and iTunes) today and at first listen it is pretty good. I need to hear it a few more times to see where it ranks in the order of all things Foldsness.

One of the videos included in the iTunes download is for the song Cologne which in itself is a pretty decent song and a good video, but the part that caught my eye is the inclusion of Folds' kids in the action.

That must be fun for them to be a part of their dad's work. I know they've inspired quite a bit of it.

Dave Grohl and the Foo Fathers

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is having a blast being a dad, and he's not alone. Band members Nate Mandel and Chris Shiflett are also new fathers, and drummer Taylor Hawkins is just months away from rounding it out.

Grohl claims that fatherhood has opened him to his softer, gentler side. It happens to the best of us, Dave. Don't be surprised if the new Foo Fighters album (due this month) has a piano ballad in the mix.

Dave says, "Violet's the light at the end of my tunnel. I'm not afraid to write anything anymore. A lot of that has to do with the big picture - having a child and realizing that life's too short to be afraid of a f**king piano ballad." Hey, it works for Ben Folds.

The band has also been keeping up with the latest gossip. I assume they've been reading FameCrawler.

''Have you seen Britney without the extensions?'' Dave asked drummer Taylor Hawkins. ''She looks so good with short hair."

"If she could just get her shit together,'' replied Hawkins. ''You know you're in bad shape if Kevin Fenderline [sic] is looking like the good guy...''

Grohl also offered this insight, ''I'm gonna go ahead and say that Paris Hilton is f**kin' lame, she's more offensive to me than anything... a total raging, disgusting, rich, lazy party slut. I pray that my daughter will not turn out like her.''

Spoken like a true dad.
