Sophia Coppola and Daughter Romy Find Joy in the Mundane

Sophia Coppola headed out for a walk with daughter Romy in their Soho NY neighborhood. Romy is at the age when a walk is the one of the most exciting things in the world. It's hard to imagine anyone getting so excited about seeing a tree, or a big wad of smashed bubble gum in the street. I remember when my kids were small, and that would be the highlight of our day. Besides the 2pm showing of Gullah Gullah Island, that is.

Now they're tweens, and a walk is only the means to an end - if the stroll doesn't end in a trip to Starbucks or at the door to Hot Topic, what's the point?

Enjoy your little walks with Romy while you can, Sophia. *sniff*

Michelle Williams - mother of Heath Ledger's daughter, Matilda Rose - is in the April issue of Elle and she looks amazing. She is a natural beauty without even really trying. Michelle talks about the birth of Matilda and how she's a New York kid and her greatest prize. She also reveals her guess at who former co-star Katie Holmes was dating back in 2005 when the news broke.

Giving birth to her daughter:

"It's all about water. I was in and out of the bathtub my entire labor -- 24 hours. I don't remember the pain, or the sensation. But I do remember quietly talking to myself and saying, "Okay, you don't have to tell anybody what you're thinking right now. You don't have to tell Heath, you don't have to tell the nurse, you don't have to tell the doctor: You are never, ever doing this again. It can be a secret just for us." [laughs]

I was trying to tell myself, "Remember what I'm saying now. This pain is too great to bear. You won't do this again." And here I am today, and the next one I'll do at home! You totally forget. It's nature's trick."

Her break-up with Heath and her greatest prize:

"All in all, how long has it been? Six months. It's been long and not long. It feels like yesterday and it feels like long ago, but not six months. The distraction of work is utterly invaluable.

When I have too much free time, that's when things start to get a little messy. [Tears pool in eyes, then she smiles.] Matilda's the prize. She's bigger to me than any relationship, bigger than the awards. She's what came out of it."

Her 'Brooklyn baby':

"We were in the car today, driving back from this indoor playspace, and Matilda started talking to herself in the back. She said, "I'd like an everything bagel with butter, please!"

She's such a New York kid. That's what she's thinking about: going home. Every morning we go to the coffee shop. She's ready to go back and get her bagel, and I'm ready to get a really good cup of coffee."

About hearing Katie Holmes was 'dating someone':

"I was shocked. Busy [Philipps, another DC co-star and Michelle's close friend, now 5 months along with a girl, called and said, "You're never going to believe who Katie's with now." And I'm like, "Who?" And she said, "Who's the biggest movie star you can think of?" I said -- this is embarrassing -- 'Tom Selleck?!'"

In case you were wondering, no, the love for Heath Ledger will never stop.

The most recent edition of Interview magazine devotes an entire spread to tributes to the late actor, who is lauded for being a great father, a gifted actor, and an all around awesome guy. Did you doubt it? A sampling:

Amy Pascal: "He was always introducing you to 3,000 mates whose names you can’t remember."

Philip Seymour Hoffman: "Heath didn’t have the cynicism that this business can eventually put upon people, or the pretension that certain artists can carry with them sometimes. He had a really honest quality about him. He obviously had never lost his wide-eyed optimism."

Sean Penn: "Heath was not simply a quiet and gifted actor who liked to go surfing, though that is how I primarily knew him in life. In the time we spent together, we spoke a bit about family, about travels, but most of all, about film.Yet, in his unassuming way, he never revealed to me the visual poet of the first order who I discovered watching the film clips he directed, music videos and such, after his death. His talent does speak volumes of the kind man, the loving father, and, in fact, the brilliant and gifted guy I really missed out on—that we all did, in the long run. Heath might have been a giant."

It's been almost 2 months since actor Heath Ledger passed away - accidentally overdosing on prescription meds. And for the first time, Michelle Williams - his ex fiance and mother of his daughter Matilda - speaks out. Also, another past love of his - Naomi Watts - has only kind things to say about him. Here are excerpts from Interview magazine:

Michelle says:

"For as long as I'd known him, he had bouts with insomnia. He just had too much energy. His mind was turning, turning, turning - always turning. He had an uncontrollable energy. He buzzed. He would jump out of bed.

"I think that the interesting thing about Heath, which maybe people have only really fully discovered in his death, is how vulnerable he was. You can pick up on it in his performances, but it’s easy to overlook because he was so physical and beautiful and strong and masculine. But there was always that underlying sensitivity. That’s who he was."

She remembers the time following Matilda's birth as the best of her life:

"The first six weeks of our daughter's Matilda's life was this incredibly insular, protected time.

"It was just he and I and her, living in our new house in Brooklyn. No nanny, no help - not really even any family. A couple of friends came through, but we were really committed to forming a bond just between the three of us. And then that bubble got broken with work.

"Brokeback Mountain was going to come out and the press stuff just started rearing up. But those six weeks were just blissful."

What Naomi, 39, had to say:

"His acting was just so touching, so connected in truth. I think he was just getting started.

"That's the deepest tragedy in terms of his work - he was just beginning to own it and embrace it."

It's still so sad.

Sources close to the actor are upset that there are reports that Heath was a possible drug user. He was reportedly found with sleeping pills and other medications surrounding his body, however, insiders are adamant that Ledger did not use illegal drugs. Friends are sure it was an accidental overdose.

An autopsy is being performed tomorrow.
