Is there any hope for Jon and Kate Gosselin? Can this couple keep their family together? Or is the writing on the wall?

On Monday’s episode of Jon & Kate Plus Eight, Kate Gosselin spent her birthday without her husband Jon, who was away on a snowboarding trip.

“I went out to Utah for like five days,” he says in the episode filmed in March. “I just wanted to get back out there and ride with my friends. It just happened to fall on Kate’s birthday.”

But Kate wasn’t alone. Her eight kids, with help from the show’s producers, surprised her with a bus ride to Charm City Cakes, the bakery featured on the show Ace of Cakes.

There, Kate was surprised with a pink lemon birthday cake and her kids got to decorate cakes of their own with globs of colorful icing. It looked “like a rainbow vomited,” Kate said.

“This season, sometimes you’ll see Kate and I interview separately. Sometimes you’ll see us interview together on the chair,” Jon explained in a voiceover. “It depends how things are going. We have busy schedules.”

In the second of two new episodes Monday night, their schedules kept them apart again. This time, however, Kate took their daughter Madelyn, 8, to San Diego while Jon stayed home with her twin sister Cara and their six younger brothers and sisters.

While Kate and Madelyn hung out on the beach and got pedicures, Jon put together the slide for a swing-set he was building, and took the kids on a hike in the woods, where one of the sextuplets, Alexis, tripped with her hands in her pockets, fell and bit through her lip.

Jon called the kids’ pediatrician and then informed Kate of the news.

“We usually don’t call,” Jon says of the couple’s understanding.

“No news is good news,” Kate explained.

The Gosselins did come together to film their confessionals, sitting as far apart as possible in their famous loveseat or with Madelyn between them, but didn’t directly address their recent marital problems.

Does it still seem like Jon has one foot out the door of their marriage? Does Kate want to make it work? Do the kids feel the tension?

Kate Gosselin, along with her eight children, took a beach vacation to Bald Head Island, North Carolina. Absent from the trip - the kids' daddy, Kate's husband Jon.

Kate, the kids, a nanny and bodyguard Steve Neilds, arrived by ferry early last week. They rented a cottage, and Kate and the children shot scenes for their reality show, Jon & Kate Plus 8.

The group spent time in the pool, driving around on golf carts and enjoyed time on the beach, making sand castles.

Twins Mady and Cara, were spotted with their nanny and a bodyguard at Riverside Adventure Co. gift shop. A local resident said, "They looked content enough, and the kids in particular looked really happy. They were just being kids. [Kate] seemed frazzled, but that was probably more because she was dealing with eight kids."

Yes, I would imagine trying to wrangle eight kids would be tough - nice of Jon to spend time with his family. Oh, wait, he didn't He was busy shopping, drinking beer and hanging out with his girlfriends.

Jon Gosselin spent his Memorial Day weekend with two gal pals - neither being his wife Kate. The reality TV star of Jon & Kate Plus 8 dropped some cold hard cash on expensive duds for himself. No word on what he bought his kids.

Jon Gosselin was apparently trying to put out a fire in his pants yesterday -- a fire that was clearly burning a hole in his pocket, because he was spending like a mutha.

Now we find out he dropped more than $2,000 Friday at the Barneys CO-OP in the Riverside Square Mall in New Jersey. It's the same mall where one of the two women he was with dropped $595 at Tumi -- on a purse.

And spies at the mall tell us Jon and the two girls dropped in on Louis Vuitton, Cole Haan and Godiva. As one dude put it, Jon was decked out in cheesy Ed Hardy duds.

And now we're told the two women who accompanied Jon were the two chicks with whom he spent Memorial Day. We got this pic of the trio at Front Street Bar and Grill in Newburgh, NY.

From the looks of it, Jon was spending on Jon but not Kate Plus 8.

What about the two women he was with? Just friends? Something more? Does Kate care that he was out with them and not spending time with her or their children?

New details are emerging in the Memorial Day outing in which Jon Gosselin was spotted drinking with female companions.

According to Us magazine, the "Jon & Kate Plus 8" dad's visit to the Front Street Bar & Grill was nothing but "chill."

Jon simply came in "to have a beer and chill," bar manager Robb Tanczos tells the mag. He only stayed for about half an hour before he noticed people were taking photographs. "People weren't causing a scene or ooohing and ahhhing, but Jon could tell people were starting to notice him and he got uncomfortable," Tanczos says. At that point, Jon finished his beer and left with his two female companions.

Us reports that a one onlooker named Jess called into 104.7 The Dial radio station after spotting Jon at the bar. "They were just ... drinking some Miller Lites," she reported. "No canoodling, nothing like that. He was wearing his ring, I will give him that."

After leaving the Front Street venue, Jon took his friends to Torches restaurant. "There was no flirting or affection," Torches manager Damien Brady adds. "They just looked like old friends and were laughing and having a good time."

Does Jon and Kate's marriage seem like it's over to you? What about the kids, who would they be better off with? Perhaps TLC will be going forward with their new Jon and Kate show?

Jon & Kate Plus 8 might be a thing of the past! According to sources, the show will be renamed Jon & Kate Unleashed, and be revamped into something more sleek, sexy and sinister!

From Pittsburgh Tribune Review:

After their father's rumored infidelity sent the show's ratings soaring, the youngsters who helped make "Jon & Kate Plus 8" a success are being de-emphasized.

The children will be sent away to boarding school to allow The Learning Channel show to explore more mature themes. The program's producers also announced today that the reality program will be rechristened "Jon & Kate Unleashed."

"The kids will still make occasional guest appearances, primarily around the holidays," executive producer Benny Temberton said at a news conference outside Jon and Kate Gosselin's home. "But we're definitely retooling the show into something sleek, something sexy -- and perhaps even a little sinister."

Since its inception, the show has centered on the logistical challenges the Gosselins face in raising their now 8-year-old twin girls and 5-year-old sextuplets.

The nearly 10 million viewers who watched the show's fifth-season premiere Monday were more than double the program's previous largest audience. The boost has been attributed to numerous tabloid reports that Jon has been unfaithful to Kate.

Temberton would not confirm or deny those stories but called them a "fantastic opportunity" to break free from a format that was growing stale.

"What we've been dealing with since the show debuted is this: Jon and Kate have eight kids. That sure makes for a lot of dirty clothes piling up in the laundry room," Temberton said. "By now, the audience gets that."

Once the children are dispatched to a far-off locale -- Temberton mentioned Switzerland as a possibility -- the show will revolve around the Gosselins' troubled marriage.

"To fill the vacuum left by the children, we'll have a mysterious stranger with some skeletons in his closet move next door to the Gosselins," Temberton said. "Will Kate be tempted to become romantically involved with him if she and Jon separate? You'll have to tune in to find out."

Temberton dismissed the idea that such a manipulation of events might taint the program's reputation as reality based.

"Oh, come on. These people put makeup on every morning before breakfast so they can be videotaped eating their Shredded Wheat," he said. "You call that reality?"

He also scoffed at the notion the Gosselins would be lonely without their children.

"They'll still have family around," he said. "The production crew isn't going anywhere."

Sleek, sexy and sinister - are they sure this will be suitable viewing for TLC? Seriously, Jon and Kate would send their eight young children to boarding school? I know they are in a heck of a mess right now, but I honestly can't believe the couple would ship their kids far away!

TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 reality show, featuring Jon and Kate Gosselin and their eight children, is very popular. But with the future of Jon and Kate's marriage hanging in the balance, it's unclear if their show will or should continue. However, according to one expert, a TV show featuring the Gosselins and their break up, would be a big hit!

Robert Galinsky, New York Reality TV School founder, believes Jon and Kate's possible divorce has the makings of the "perfect spinoff."

He said, "You get two-for-one here."

If the couple were to split, Galinksy says producers should make the most of it - follow Jon on his journey and Kate on hers, and see how the kids handle the changes.

"This is not sheer entertainment anymore," he added. "It's sort of a sociological, almost a documentary, at this point.

"If it's done tastefully, it could be a great experience for us to watch."

His advice for the Gosselins?

"Continue to be completely honest and let us watch the true nature of a relationship as it evolves. They can't hide from the cameras."

Um, anyone else think this is a bad idea? Seriously, I don't think the Gosselin children should be filmed while their parents are in the middle of a divorce - what kind of impact will it have on them? Probably not a good one!

You knew it was coming! A juicy, behind-the-scenes look at what really happens in the Gosselin household just might be around the corner in a new book. What book? Well, that would be the book that Kate Gosselin's brother Kevin, is writing.

When there's money to be made, it seems blood is definitely not as thick as water: After the brother of Jon Gosselin's alleged mistress revealed his sister's story for free, Kate Gosselin's brother is following suit. But he wants to see the green, first.

E! News reports that Kevin Kreider has been shopping his tell-all take on the situation to media outlets for $30,000. That's a swift turnabout from when the estranged sibling complained today on CBS' Early Show that the eight kids in the Gosselin family were "exploited" and treated as "a commodity."

"We're speaking out now because we want to be the voice of our nieces and nephews," Kevin told the morning show. "We're seeing it turn tide, that they're being viewed as a commodity."

I see, so this book is to help protect Kevin's nieces and nephews - the Gosselin's eight children? Interesting. He has the best interests of the children in mind? Or is it the money he's after? Hmm. You pick.

It's bad enough the Gosselin kids have to suffer through the possible break up of their parents, in the public eye no less, but now Uncle Kevin and Aunt Jodi want to exploit them? Despicable!

Is the writing on the wall? After Monday night's premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8, it seemed quite evident that Jon and Kate Gosselin may not be able to salvage their marriage and family. Maybe they don't want to. The couple spent the Memorial Day weekend, far apart.

While Kate reportedly took the eight on a boat ride in North Carolina this week, Jon was spotted at an upstate New York bar with two women. Several witnesses at 26 Front Street bar in the Hudson River town of Newburgh tell PEOPLE that Jon stopped in with two friends Monday afternoon – a woman who appeared to be in her mid-20s and another who looked to be older.

"They came in, approached the bar, got some drinks and then stood off on their own by a railing," says a bouncer who checked Jon's ID. "They were laughing and talking and they all left together."

The bouncer says Jon and the younger woman, "were standing close at one point ... but there was not any PDA that I noticed." Jon's trip to the bar was first reported on TMZ.com.

Manager Robb Tanczos says Jon drank Miller Lite. "I didn't see any kissing, touching, caressing or anything like that," he says. "They just kind of chilled."

Both Jon and Kate have denied reports they have been unfaithful to one another.

Sources say Jon and his two friends spent about 40 minutes in the outdoor area of the Newburgh bar and left after it appeared people began noticing they were there.

"People tried taking cell phone pictures and they turned around to face the railing and kind of spread out so they weren't standing so close," says the bouncer.

"I think once people recognized him they left," adds Tanczos.

The trio also stopped into another restaurant nearby, Torches on the Hudson, for some food and drink that afternoon.

"Jon looked really relaxed and was talking to people," general manager Damien Brady tells PEOPLE. "One of the waitresses asked for an autograph and he gave it to her."

Kate Gosselin's New Book: Love Is In The Mix

Kate Gosselin is one busy lady! The mom of eight, who stars on TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8, will release her third book, Love Is in the Mix: Making Meals into Memories. It will hit store shelves October 13, 2009, according to Amazon.com.

"Fans ... won’t want to miss this inside look at one of America’s most famous close-knit families," the back cover states.

In addition to offering nutritious recipes and tips on eating organically, Love Is in the Mix promises to teach readers "how to craft family traditions that create happy memories" and "how to feed a large family on a budget." The book will include family photos and anecdotes about her twins and sextuplets.

According to the site, Kate will also offer insight into handling picky eaters, making lunchtime fun, planning meals for vacations, and making ordinary days "extra special."

Although excerpts from the book have not yet been released, commenters have already begun slamming the star's previously released recipes and claim she stole them "from product boxes and magazine articles."

One person wrote that her recipe for the cereal treat Monkey Munch -- which was mentioned on the TLC show -- is the same as one on the Chex brand website and calls it "plagiarism."

Other commenters were shocked that the woman who once said that "real cooks don't need recipes" was qualified to write a cookbook. They wrote on Amazon.com that on the show, Kate does little to "no cooking, no meals, just snacks -- crackers, yogurt, grapes, cukes and peppers in pita. The woman can't cook."

Still, with Kate's previous two books reaching the New York Times Best Seller list, the book's publishers are likely expecting similar success with Love Is in the Mix. In addition to her income from book sales, the newest issue of Us Weekly, on newsstands today, reports that the Gosselins -- who live in a $1.1 million house -- earn approximately $50,000 to $75,000 per show.

Kate's first two books - Multiple Bles8ings: Surviving to Thriving with Twins and Sextuplets and Eight Little Faces - focused on raising a big family and the joys and challenges parents face. She also shared photos of her kids and her favorite scriptures in the second one.

New book, so, does this mean Kate will be away from her family again? Not that I have anything against the woman having a career, but with all the difficulties she and husband Jon are facing, I would think her marriage and family would be top priority?

Reality TV stars Jon and Kate Gosselin are parents to eight young children - a set of twins, Mady and Cara, 8, and sextuplets, Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah, 5 - and the kids are featured on their TLC show Jon & Kate Plus 8. Kate's brother and sister-in-law are once again speaking out - they believe the Gosselin kids are being "exploited" for the sake of ratings. Are they?

Jon and Kate Gosselin's eight children are being "exploited" for the sake of ratings, Kate's brother and sister-in-law alleged on CBS' The Early Show Wednesday.

When the TLC series first aired in 2007, Kevin Kreider, Kate's younger brother, and his wife, Jodi, thought it was a unique way to document the kids' lives.

"We thought it was very innocent at the time," Jodi said. "It quickly turned into more and more demands from Jon and Kate from the network. It turned into 40 episodes in a six-month span."

"There were cameras in the children's bedroom at one point, and they were filming all year round," Jodi said. "These were very huge concerns for us."

Monday's season five premiere attracted 9.8 million viewers - more than double the audience for its fourth-season finale several weeks ago. Kevin -- who is estranged from his sister Kate -- said he and his wife are speaking out now to be "the voices" of their nieces and nephews.

"They're being viewed as a commodity," Kevin said.

Added Jodi, "They're being exploited, and it's time for America to see the situation for what it really is."

"Unfortunately, there are no laws protecting children in reality TV shows, and it's time for the public to be appear of this," she continued. "These children are very aware of the cameras in their homes. The home is their workplace. This is not a healthy environment for kids to be raised in."

When he broached the subject with Jon and Kate in the past, Kevin said the couple told him, "'This is what we chose. This is how we're going to provide for them.'"

(Jon and Kate earn an estimated $25-$75,000 an episode, in addition to a score of freebies.)

"We feel that they've chosen this path with disregard to their children's safety, security," he said.

Despite Kate's previous claims, Jodi also said the kids do not like the cameramen in their home all the time.

"They don't want the cameras around. They have told me personally," said Jodi. "They would say, 'Aunt Jodi, I don't like the cameras on every vacation with us.'"

"Kids have bad moments, and they cry," Jodi added. "Having a camera zoom in on a crying child... this should not be a form of entertainment."

Above all, Kevin said he wants Jon and Kate to "see the effects and see what is most important."

Jodi said Jon and Kate, who admitted on Monday's premiere that they may divorce, are "very lost right now. They're very blinded by all this media, the fame and fortune."

"It's time to really put priorities first," she said. "They say children is their priority, but clearly it is not."

Said Jodi, "No one is looking at these children, at what they are going through, and the life consequences they are going to have as they get older."

Is it just me, or does anyone else take issue with Kevin and Jodi speaking out? While they may have some valid points about the Gosselin children being on TV and in the public eye, I just don't understand why they are blabbing to the media about their own family? Are they too, exploiting the situation for financial gain?

With their marriage, the birth of their twins, then sextuplets, a hugely popular TV show, paparazzi following their every move and now on the cover of every tabloid you can name, it's probably more than they can handle some days. Do you remember how it all started?

THE ORIGINAL ONE-HOUR SPECIAL, SURVIVING SEXTUPLETS AND TWINS
Pre-Jon & Kate Plus Eight, Discovery's Health channel airs a one-hour special, Surviving Sextuplets and Twins. Viewers meet the Gosselins, a young couple of modest means whose infertility treatments led to twin girls, followed by sextuplets (three girls, three boys). Audiences fall in love with Cara and Mady, as well as Hannah, Aaden, Alexis, Joel, Leah, and Collin.

MOMMY TUCKS IN MORE THAN JUST KIDS
The follow-up special, Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later, finds the ten Gosselins happily relocated to a larger house. Kate takes an out-of-state trip to visit a generous plastic surgeon who offered her a tummy tuck after watching her in the previous special (in which she dubbed her postpartum belly ''jowls of a dog.'')

''IT MIGHT BE A CRAZY LIFE, BUT IT'S OUR LIFE''
Three episodes into their series on TLC, Jon & Kate Plus Eight, the Gosselins visit California for a speaking engagement. Stopping at Sequoia National Forest, they collect huge pinecones, unaware it's illegal. The souvenirs end up in their garage and spark one of the notoriously petty Jon/Kate quarrels (over which box to store the pine cones in) that would become a staple of the series.

THE HOLLY JOLLY HISSYFIT AT THE TOY STORE
The children pick Christmas gifts for one another at ToysRUs in the ''Shopping for Ten'' episode. But when Kate wheels her cart of cranky kids to the checkout, she impatiently bellows ''Helloooo!'' at Jon. Mortified, he tells her in the parking lot, ''You yelled at me in there like I'm a frickin' dog'' and adds, ''I know you're a better person than that.''

OUR POTTIES, OURSELVES
Undoubtedly psyched to end her diaper-changing days, proud mom Kate asks Alexis to pose for a photo (''It's a memory!'') next to the fruits of her potty-training labor. Jon's take? ''I think it's gross!'' TLC agrees, deciding in the ''Pancakes and Potties'' episode to shield viewers from the sight of fresh poo.

''WE NEED TO DO THIS FOR OUR MARRIAGE''
During ''Jon Turns 30,'' loved ones gather at a restaurant where Kate surprises Jon with his birthday gift: a trip for two to Key West. Reflecting on the precious R&R, she acknowledges that it was costly, but calls it an investment in their relationship: ''Marriages can crumble very easily. I'm not dumb. Ours has 500 times the stress of a normal marriage.''

KATE HAS A COW ABOUT COLORING IN CUTE CLOTHES
The children visit the Crayola Factory in ''Color Me Gosselin'' to see crayons get made. During a hands-on part of the tour, Kate tries to prevent stains (Jon observes, ''Kate, you're being neurotic — they can't have fun?'') and then forbids anyone to play with markers. Jon sides with the children, saying, ''You shouldn't have dressed them in nice outfits.''

''WE'RE GETTING MARRIED AGAIN TO SHOW YOU WE'RE GOING TO BE TOGETHER FOREVER AND EVER''
Why are Mommy and Daddy renewing their vows? Kate, with her flock in wedding attire gathered around, reminds the children that the Hawaiian ceremony means their parents will always be together. Jon confesses later in the ''For Better or Worse'' episode that as Kate walked down the aisle, he thought, ''Wow, that's my beautiful wife.''

Remember, about a year ago, Jennifer Lopez was gearing up for a reality TV show for TLC? It's OK if you don't - it probably wasn't going to be that exciting anyway. And it's water under the bridge anyway - Jon & Kate Plus 8 is so hugely popular it practically killed any chance for a JLo show.

Sources at TLC tell TMZ there is just about zero chance of Jennifer Lopez ever having a reality TV show. With the Monday night premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8 scoring almost 10 million viewers, there's just no room for a behind the scenes with JLo creating a new fragrance show. Boring!

A TLC insider said, "It [Jennifer Lopez show idea] was on life support for awhile, and now we've just lost interest."

Lopez had said she wouldn't feature her children - twins Max and Emme. It was going to focus on her and her work ventures. Snoresville.

Probably for the best anyway - if she sees the mess Jon and Kate Gosselin are in now, she'll be thankful she and Marc didn't push for their own show! Not worth breaking up a family!

Yes, Jon and Kate Gosselin are going through a very difficult time. However, there are eight little people who are also experiencing tough times - the couple's children. Twins, Mady and Cara, 8, and sextuplets, Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah, 5, are sensing things aren't quite right between their parents.

In perhaps one of the most heart-breaking moments of the fifth season premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8, five-year-old Alexis tells her father, "Daddy, I don't want you to leave anymore." The harrowing plea comes as the littlest Gosselins worry that their dad will be pushed out of their lives. And the Gosselins' nanny talks only to Star about the impact on the children.

While Jon and Kate Gosselin's marriage crumbles, their eight children are realizing it's over. And in the midst of all the madness, the Gosselin kids (twins Mady and Cara, age 8, and sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah, age 5) are finding it hard to weather the storm.

“The boys have been acting out since the scandal started,” a source tells Star. At the same time, Mady and Cara have become withdrawn. “They’re having trouble at school,” says the source. “They’re old enough to know what’s going on, and not a day goes by that they don’t ask Jon if he’s moving out. They say, ‘Daddy, don’t go!’ They’re scared they’ll lose him.”

Jon has long been the primary parent to his kids, even quitting his job to be a stay-at-home dad. "They would be heartbroken if he left them,” the Gosselins’ former nanny Angela Krall tells Star. “And he would be heartbroken too.”

Will Jon and Kate put a halt on their TLC show and focus on repairing their marriage and salvaging their family?

Jon and Kate Gosselin seemed uncomfortable and unsure on the season premiere of their TLC reality show, Jon & Kate Plus 8. Of course by now, everyone knows they are having marital problems due to recent events concerning Jon being out with another woman. However, could there be more going on? According to sources, Jon is kept on a very tight leash by Kate - perhaps he's fed up with it all?

The new issue of Us Weekly has even more details on Kate Gosselin's tight leash on husband Jon, and the long, strange private dynamic between the deteriorating couple.

"She used to give him only $5 to spend, and if he was out and needed more money, she would give him hell," his former employer at Style Craft Corp, David Rothermel, tells Us.

Rothermel, who fired Jon for misusing company resources and remembers college dropout Jon looking online all day for freebies for the sextuplets, also recalls a very-pregnant-with-sextuplets Kate storming into the office one day.

"She came in raising hell because Jon's father was supposed to bring her lunch and he was late," Rothermel recalls. "She got up out of bed rest to come in and yell at anyone who would listen!" (The Gosselins later publicly concocted a story that Jon was let go by Rothermel because the company didn't want to insure the sextuplets.)

Also during that time, when a friend of Jon's father donated a 14-passenger van to the family, Kate "never thanked him," says a source close to Jon. Instead, "she traded it in because she hated the color burgundy."

During Monday's season premiere, a beaten-down Jon revealed his lack of self-esteem. "I can't write. Some people say I can't talk or breathe right, either." (Kate famously told him once to "stop breathing so loud.") Also on the episode -- the show's highest-rated episode of all time -- Kate admitted she's "been hard" on Jon during the 10 years of their marriage.

"I would never deny that. I've always regretted it," she says.

Well, if they have a parent-child type of marriage, it's definitely not going to work! I would think Kate, being a mother of eight children, would prefer to have an equal partner in the relationship, not another person she can treat like a kid and boss around!

And what's wrong with Jon - if Kate's behavior towards him is actually how it's being reported - that he can't stand up for himself? After watching Monday night's premiere, I'm fairly certain Jon wants out of the marriage. Although, both Jon and Kate said they would absolutely be there for the children, no matter what. Let's hope they at least get that right!

Jon and Kate Gosselin probably need some fun in their lives right now. Raising a big family is difficult - add to that, marital problems, in the public eye no less, and that's a lot of stress! The Gosselins let loose and hit the open road with fellow TLC stars of American Chopper.

Jon, looking butch in a blue sleeveless tank and shades, was snapped riding a red motorcycle through his native Reading, PA. His bride Kate rode with Paul Teutul Sr., Chopper's 60-yer-old patriarch.

The couple were last seen together a week ago, joining to celebrate the fifth birthday of their sextuplets--which was caught on film for their own TLC hit Jon & Kate Plus 8.

Kate was presented with a gift from the American Chopper guys - a pink scooter! How cute - I bet her girls loved that!

Jon & Kate Plus 8, featuring Jon and Kate Gosselin and their brood of eight kids - a set of twins and sextuplets - show viewers what it takes to raise multiples. The program is supposed to be "relatable" for fans - showing every day struggles with caring for children, particularly a big family. However, Kate's sister-in-law Julie is letting viewers know the show is not all it seems.

Julie blogged: *Note* Julie is the sister of "Aunt Jodi" just to clear up any confusion. Us mag referred to her as "sister-in-law" although, I'm not sure that would be the proper title for her in regards to Kate Gosselin.

"Since TLC is airing the old episodes, I thought I shed some light on how the show works. We've discussed this before, but it's buried somewhere in the archived posts.

"When the show first started, Kate made a wishlist of things that she wanted, and that became the theme of each episode--the carpet, twin's room, bunk beds, cow, hairplugs, teeth whitening, trips, etc. EVERYTHING that you see them do or buy is completely paid for out of the budget for the show or traded for free advertising. Kate went on and on about saving up for special days, you saw her paying for things, she talked about budgeting, etc. It is all for the appearance that they are a struggling family with 8 children. They needed to be relatable. They didn't pay for any of it.

"The episodes are also staged. Here's how it works...there is a staff of people reading these blogs and they base the shows around what people are talking about. I haven't watched many episodes, but I do know some of the behind the scenes events.

"The Christmas episode from 2007. Producers told Kate that the viewers wanted to see her show appreciation to their helpers. They told her what the episode was going to be. I think they baked cookies and then went caroling (of course this was probably one of their many 'traditions"--those are all fake too). Kate threw a fit. She didn't want to do it, but she did...because they were trying to pacify the viewers.

"Another example is the 'Games Gosselins Play' (I think that might have been the same episode as their 'mission statement'). I actually did watch this one. This was around the time that I started reading discussion boards and finding out that there were many people opposed to the show. It was so obvious that the mission statement was addressing all of the concerns that I had been reading online. The game time was just ridiculous. After the episode, I called Jodi and said, 'what was that?.' She hadn't watched it, so I explained that it came across so fake (at least to me). Jodi was with Kate when she got "the call" about the theme for that episode. Kate said something like, 'so now I have to pretend that I play with my kids.' They also wanted her to pay special attention to the boys.

"Don't believe everything you see. The children are also being prompted to say or do certain things. They signed their lives away to TLC and they will continue to spin the show to keep the viewer's interest. I don't believe this show will go away until the viewers decide that they don't want to be played anymore.

"Of course, you've all figured out that they are showing Kate cook/bake to promote her upcoming cookbook. The show has now turned into a show about a family with a reality show--move to a mansion, cross-over shows, book tour, talk shows...

"I've only watch a handful of episodes. I haven't even seen all of the episodes that Jodi has been in. I made a personal decision long ago to do what I can to give those children the privacy and respect that they deserve. I refuse to watch and participate in something that I feel so strongly against.

"Please don't watch on Monday. You're not going to learn anything new by watching. They will only show what they think people want to see and it isn't real anyway. They will probably drag this out (J&K's 'relationship') for the entire season. They just string the viewers along hoping that they will come back for more."

So, do you believe her? Are the Gosselins - particularly the children - being exploited? I have only seen a few minutes of the show here and there, but what I have seen doesn't seem "fake" when it comes to the kids. They honestly don't seem like they're being prompted to act a certain way - I mean, don't they have meltdowns like any other kid? That's pretty real!

And would two parents put on a "show" (no pun) for the cameras to keep the money flowing even if it meant exploiting their own kids? I suppose it's possible - we see parents do worse things all the time. I don't want to believe Jon and Kate are so manipulative!

The fifth season of Jon & Kate Plus 8 premiered tonight and Jon and Kate Gosselin, besides talking about their kids and celebrating the sextuplets' fifth birthday, spoke of where they are in their relationship. Kate cried, and Jon hinted at divorce. Both seemed very awkward and uncomfortable.

Jon and Kate didn't sit together on their sofa as they normally do, except for a few minutes at the end of the show. Both seemed very unsure of what to say and it was sort of painful to watch. I have never seen a full episode of the show - until now.

You have to feel sorry for them - at least I did. Trying to figure out where your marriage is headed if you're having problems is hard enough to do in private, but to have to try to explain things in front of a TV camera, knowing millions of people are watching, must be that much more difficult.

Both Jon and Kate talked about the paparazzi and how they never expected their lives to be played out in the media as it has been. Jon said he'd never read a tabloid magazine in his life - until recently. He said it was the first one he'd ever purchased - and the last.

Kate reveals the pressures of being in the media is hard. "It's a lot. I would be lying if I sat here and said, 'Oh, I'm handing it great.' It's not fine."

Jon insisted he did not cheat on Kate - he admitted he made some stupid mistakes (I'm assuming he was referring to going out to a hotel bar with a woman friend... Deanna Hummel... and staying out until 2 a.m. and then being photographed. Yes, sort of a big 'oops') and said, "I’d like to apologize for my family for my actions. It was wrong place, wrong time. I didn’t understand the ramifications on how it would affect everything. I should have thought about more of what I did and where I was going. Everyone knows what I’m talking about."

Jon said he's afraid that one day his kids might Google him, and read all the crap written about him. His hope is they will believe it's just that - crap.

Kate believes Jon has resentment towards her because she's traveling a lot, promoting her book, and he's home with the kids. She said Jon's not totally happy with her right now, and he's glad she's away. "Have I been hard on him over the last almost 10 years we've been married? Absolutely. I would never deny that. You have it on tape! ... Have I pushed him to this? I don't think I have. ... This is very difficult; I have a lot of anger. ... This is not where we were supposed to be. ... He's made some very poor decisions, and you know, we all have to live with them."

She added, "It's complicated."

The show then focuses on the sextuplets and their birthday bash, which, omigod, can you even imagine trying to host a party for that many kids plus their 2 older siblings, plus their friends? Jon and Kate pretty much ignore each other during the festivities, which was slightly awkward.

Kate later discusses her book tour and said she's grateful for the fans of their show and admits, in the past, she wasn't so fond of the fans. She admittedly found them annoying, but now "even the naysayers" get a thumbs-up in her book.

Towards the end of the show, Jon and Kate are seated together and asked "What's the status" of their relationship and where they are right now? Neither know. Another awkward moment.

Kate says she does everything for her kids, and Jon says he'll always be there for his kids, too. When asked what the future holds, Kate says, "I can only speak for myself. I am here." Jon says, "I'm here for my kids." Hmm, interesting. It sounds like Kate wants to make it work, but Jon isn't quite so sure.

Back to sitting alone, Kate is asked if the sextuplets' party was bittersweet - and tears start to stream and she admits it could be their "last family picture," so it was important that they do this. She said parents of multiples have "like triple the divorce rate and thinking we were going to beat that."

She adds, "Very swiftly, we turned into two different people, and it's just hard... But generally speaking, we at least physically pulled it off [the party]."

Jon says it was important for the kids to see their parents together and they will always pull together for the sake of their children. "You know if you can be friends and get along, whether you're married or not married, they can see that the relationship is important, and we can come together for them, that's good for them."

They both agree they will protect their kids as best they can from all of this.

Jon & Kate Gosselin's popular TLC reality TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8 premieres Monday night and many are looking forward to tuning in to see how the couple interact with each other. With cheating allegations and talk of divorce, fans are wondering what will happen to the couple and their 8 children. Just in case you aren't sure who these people are (where have you been hiding?), meet them after the jump!

Meet the Parents:
Kate, 34, met Jon, 32, at a picnic in 1997, and it was "love at first sight," according to her. They got married in 1999 – and got to work on starting a family soon after. Kate was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), which made it hard for her to get pregnant on her own. Fertility treatments were necessary for both of Kate's successful pregnancies, which resulted in twins and then sextuplets.

Both parents stay home – Jon used to work as an IT analyst and Kate often travels for speaking engagements and book promotions – to manage the family and their two dogs. The family's primary income comes from their TLC reality show.

The Twins:
Big sisters Madelyn or "Mady" and Cara will turn 9 in October. Cara, the tomboy of the elder two, likes one-on-one time with her dad, whether it's when rollerskating or learning how to ski. She's more reserved than twin sister Mady, who is most likely to throw a tantrum wherever the family ends up. Drama-queen Mady is likened to her mom, a lot. (Hint: The twins are easy to tell apart since Mady got braces last season.)

The Sextuplets:
The sextuplets just turned 5 on May 10, which was also fittingly Mothers Day this year. Matching outfits aside, they are growing up fast and are pretty easy to tell apart.

First the boys. Aaden is nicknamed "the professor" – and not just because he's the only kid in glasses. He's the most inquisitive of the bunch and loves animals. Collin is the total boy, and often finds himself in "time out" when he gets too aggressive. Flying under the radar is Joel, who keeps to himself but is expressive about his love for his parents.

The three girls are Alexis, Hannah and Leah, the smallest of the six and night-owl of the family. Alexis, who has a bit of a wild streak, is always smiling. Hannah likes to keep her long hair down (like a Hawaiian princess, says Kate) and is very maternal, enjoying taking care of her siblings.

The dogs:
Two German Shepherd puppies joined the family after they moved into the new, much bigger house last season. The Christmas gifts for the kids are named Shooka (male pup, after a Samoan security guard they met in Hawaii) and Nala (female, after a character from The Lion King).

Will this family stay together? Can they?

Jon and Kate Gosselin are having a rough go of it lately, but according to sources, the couple are seeing a marriage counselor to try and repair their broken relationship. Jon wanted to go from the start, but Kate wasn't so keen. However, she's since changed her mind, particularly for the sake of their eight children.

Cheating allegations for both Jon and Kate, sent them on a slippery slope of relationship trouble and both were unsure if they wanted to salvage their marriage.

Jon soon decided he wanted to seek counseling, but Kate didn't want to bother. However, with the fate of their TLC show Jon & Kate Plus 8 hanging in the balance, Kate reconsidered. Wait, I thought it was for the kids' sake?

A source said, "It's make-or-break time for Jon and Kate, and counseling may be the only hope they have to repair their shattered marriage.

"The big question is whether they'll allow cameras into their therapy sessions. TLC would want to film at least portions of the sessions, but obviously Jon and Kate would have to agree."

Kate's brother, Kevin Kreider, said, "Kate didn't want any kind of marriage counseling." Another insider close to the couple, said, "Jon was all for counseling, but Kate thought their marriage might be too far gone. She would do it for the sake of the children, if nothing else."

Kate said on the sneak peek of their fifth season opener, "Everything's falling apart. I feel like the world is sitting on my shoulders. But I will not give up. I will not lay down and die."

But apparently Kate has other motives as well - she hopes to sign on with TLC for two more seasons of their popular show. "Kate wants a future in showbiz, and airing their counseling sessions will shoot the show's ratings through the roof."

Let's hope Kate's motivation to repair her marriage is for the sake of the kids and their family, not because of the show!

Kate Gosselin is very popular, thanks to her reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8. However, it seems there are some people who are not very fond of her - namely the nurses and nurses' aides she canned! Reportedly, Gosselin fired 40 of them in three months!

Baby nurse Angela Krall, who watched the sextuplets as infants for more than a year, tells Us that the short-fused Kate fired 40 nurses and nurse's aides in the three months before she was hired.

A 2005 Associated Press story reported that a pre-TV Gosselin had petitioned the state to extend payments for Krall, whose fees were first paid by Medicaid (Jon was unemployed; Medicaid provides limited assistance to premature babies).

"Kate Gosselin said she feels society has a responsibility to help with the children, since modern medicine promotes the use of fertility drugs, which can lead to multiple births," the AP reported.

While Kate praised Krall in the same story, Krall reveals that Kate posted "demeaning" signs in every room detailing rules, and fired one woman on the spot for washing her hands in the kitchen instead of the bathroom. "Kate flipped," says Krall. "She thought it was cross-contamination."

That level of perfectionism also tore her apart from her father, Kenton Kreider, a pastor, after he gave her cribs donated by his parishioners.

"They didn't match and Kate rejected them," says a family source. "Things like that caused a rift." Krall, who says all six babies ended up with matching cribs, tells Us Kate "thought they were owed stuff. The money factor was huge."

Indeed, a now-famous Gosselin has spent 21 out of the last 30 days on the road at paid speaking engagements; after she made news last week admitting that she might leave Jon, she continued on her book tour for five days as her husband tended to the kids.

Is Kate really that demanding? I can understand her need to have order and routine - particularly in the early days after the sextuplets were born. Can you even imagine having six babies at once? You'd go insane if things weren't done "by the book" the way you had laid it out. But, is Kate so blind as to the wonderful help she may have received from those nurses? I'm sure they were all - or at least most - were professional and knowledgeable and probably would have been a huge asset to Kate and the babies.

Funny what money and fame can do to some. Let's hope Kate Gosselin doesn't let either of those things tear her family apart.

Did Jon Gosselin have an affair with 23-year-old school teacher Deanna Hummel? Yes, says Deanna's brother Jason, and other eye witnesses. Even Jon's wife, Kate is having her doubts. Will we ever know the truth?

According to sources, Jon was suspicious of Kate's relationship with her bodyguard, Steve Neild and maybe because of that, he felt he had a license to cheat?

While Kate was away, promoting her latest book, Eight Little Faces, her bodyguard was usually by her side. Back at home, Jon was caring for their eight young children but it wasn't like he was sitting at home all the time. Oh no, the married father was having his cake and eating it too. Allegedly. Reportedly. Maybe.

Witnesses claim they saw the TV father out with Deanna while Kate was gone. Of course, fresh in our memories, are the photos of Jon and Deanna leaving a hotel bar at 2 a.m. Jon allegedly slightly tipsy, even calling Deanna "babe," before getting in his white sports car.

Other "dates" include a mid-March outing at the local Ruby Tuesday's, where a waitress described the Jon and Deanna as "romantic and lovey-dovey."

On March 28, Deanna and a friend attended Spring Gruv with Jon in Utah while his wife was out of town.

On April 17, a day before Gosselin and Hummel were photographed, they were allegedly caught on a cell phone camera and were "all over each other" while enjoying the band Dirty Penny perform at Paolo's restaurant & Bar in Reading, Pa.

According to neighbors, Jon sleeps in an apartment above the family's garage in their new million dollar pad. And family say "it's over" between them and neither care to work it out.

Really? Really? A married father of eight - who is on TV and in the public eye no less - is sneaking around with a 23-year-old? Would someone be that stupid? Oh, and not to mention - hello? Married. With babies. Eight of them!

It's one thing for a man to do that to his partner, but to do something so nuts and risk breaking up his family, hurting his kids and all he's worked for and cares about?

If Jon is guilty, he's an idiot! Oh, and let's not forget Kate - is she too cozy with her bodyguard? Or did she become close to him after she suspected Jon was cheating? Tangled web... and who gets hurt? The kids.

It comes as no surprise that Jon and Kate Gosselin need help when it comes to taking care of eight small children - 2 sets of hands just aren't enough sometimes!

TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 mom Kate Gosselin was set to make an appearance at The Ronald McDonald House on Saturday, but it's been canceled. Why? Has the fallout begun?

The charity's spokesperson is claiming the cancellation is due to poor ticket sales - most likely because it was to be held on Memorial Day weekend, and they did not have enough time to "properly promote" it. Uh huh.

However, the news didn't seem to affect Kate much - she was spotted out with daughter Alexis on Monday and an eyewitness who saw them at the local bank said, "Kate seemed in a good mood today."

Maybe that's all it is - poor ticket sales because of the holiday weekend. Or maybe it's more? Perhaps Jon and Kate's fans are not feeling the reality TV family right now and want to see where things head before making up their minds.

Hey, if Kate's not touring, at least her kids get to spend time with mommy!

Jon & Kate Gosselin are already reality TV stars with their popular show Jon & Kate Plus 8 - featuring the couple and their eight children. With recent events - allegations of Jon cheating with school teacher Deanna Hummel, and Kate cheating with her bodyguard, Steve Neilds, you would think the couple would want to lessen their time in the spotlight. However, it seems the Gosselins are going to have more on their in-the-public-eye plate.

According to Chicago Sun Times' report, the Gosselins are now in talks for a book deal - with a ghostwriter - which could later be turned into a-made-for-TV movie. It will feature the couple's very public leap into "celebrity," and how they deal with it.

Who would play Jon and Kate? According to TLC sources, "it's likely it will be two unknown actors, picked for physical similarities to the Gosselins," adding, "Unknown, kind of like Kate and Jon were before this all started." How times have changed!

Who will play the kids? It's easy to find twin actors but sextuplets? Now that will be a bit more difficult!

Jon and Kate's time in the limelight must not be that bad if they're willing to put more of themselves and their children out there, right?

Jon and Kate Gosselin, once so young and so in love. They had the promise of wonderful things to come - a home, children, a life of happily-ever-after. Can they still have it? Will this family pull together and weather the storm?

Jon and Kate Gosselin can't keep their hands off each other in old footage from when they first met -- as shown on Jon & Kate Plus 8.

"I liked bad boys," Kate says.

Adds Jon: "[Before Kate], I was doing nothing with myself. No career, I worked at a ski slope...I didn't have any goals. I didn't want to get married, didn't want to have kids. Just bumming around, doing what I wanted to do."

Kate says Jon had a girlfriend when they met, but "she was gone the next day!"

How long did it take them to get serious? "One day!" Kate says.

The pair also display serious PDA as they open Christmas presents in one clip, and cry as they say their wedding vows in another.

"We were the couple that people always said were sickeningly sweet," Kate says.

"I don't know what happened," Jon deadpans.

Kate Gosselin has had a stand-by-my-man attitude on most of the media talk shows she's been on of late but she's now admitting she's not sure if husband Jon is being totally honest about what happened.

The mom-of-eight spoke with PEOPLE:

"I don't think I know if I believe him. I don't think that I know the whole truth and to be very honest. I don't think I ever will. My gut instinct says he's mad that he got caught. There wasn't a whole lot of thought that went into that behavior."

Whoa - is she saying she thinks Jon did cheat with Deanna Hummel?

It must be very difficult to have so much going on - and most of it in the public eye. Kate has been promoting her book Eight Little Faces, doing damage control with the cheating allegations by appearing on TV talk shows and filming has started on their reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8. Oh, and caring for her eight small children - not an easy task. When does she have time to deal with her relationship with Jon?

I really hope this family can pull it together! Can they?
