Slumdog Kids Finally Get A Home!

Since the incredible success of Slumdog Millionaire at the Academy Awards, most news about the production has been pretty un-inspirational.

On the one hand, you've got people piling on director Danny Boyle and the producers for not making these kids rich, and on the other, you've got Mumbai officials bulldozing the shanty towns where the child stars live. Well, get ready for some good news.

Danny and co. have made good on their promise to get these kids off the street. According to reports, Azharuddin Ismail (the kid who played young Salim) and his family are in the process of moving to their new home, purchased by the Slumdog trust fund. Here's how a director of the fund described the place:

"comfortable, in a good neighborhood (and) near his school" and cost "upwards of 2 million rupees" ($42,000).

As for Rubina Ali, the actress who played young Latika, Boyle says they are currently shopping for a home for her family as well. Awesome!

Both families were displaced when Mumbai housing officials bulldozed their shanty town with no prior notice.

Child Star of Slumdog Millionaire is Homeless

10-year-old child star of "Slumdog Millionaire" - Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail - had his home bulldozed today in a Mumbai slum. Azharruddin was sleeping when a policeman woke him up and told him to get out. The boy lives with his family in a shanty town.

"A police officer took a bamboo stick to hit me, and I was frightened," Azhar said.

The authorities said that the family will be given a new home somewhere else.

Oddly, despite $326 million in earnings and 8 Oscars for "Slumdog Millionaire," the two child stars of the film are still living in poverty.

Slum demolitions are rather common in Indian cities, motivated by officials who wish to keep crowds in control.

Azhar's mother says, "They didn't give prior notice. We didn't even get a chance to take out our belongings." Even though she and the family have lived in the shanty town for longer than 15 years, she has no legal claim to the land. "I don't know what I am going to do," she said, glancing at a plastic bag next to her, stuffed with her family's things.

Families living in demolished shanties are often promised relocation into government housing, but more often than not those are empty promises.

The filmmakers of "Slumdog" claim they've done what they can to help the young stars. A trust was set up for the kids' housing, their education, and a little nestegg for when they finish high school.

None of that seems to be helping Azhar, though, who is now homeless.

Sting's Daughter In Intensive Care With Fractured Skull

Sting and Trudie Styler's 18-year-old daughter "Coco" has been in intensive care for four days after taking a hard fall at an LA restaurant.

Eliot Paulina "Coco" Sumner (also a musician) was in LA putting the finishing touches on her first album for Island Records when it happened. Reportedly, she complained about feeling strange while sitting at her table. When she tried to stand, that's when she took a serious dive, hitting her head on a chair.

"The doctors are still running tests. Obviously it’s a serious injury and Coco is under constant surveillance.'

A friend told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Trudie and Sting were obviously besides themselves with worry. It was a blessing that Sting was in the States at the time and was able to get to the hospital so quickly.

‘Coco is still very shaken but she is planning to come back to the UK very soon."

What's perhaps even scarier is that she hadn't been drinking, which would've been my first guess. So, at this point, there's really no telling what caused her to black out.

Trudie hopped the first plane to LA from their home in the UK to be with Coco at the hospital. The whole incident is pretty much a parent's worst nightmare: your young daughter, overseas, seriously injured...

"She’s a real daddy’s girl and very close to Sting. He keeps a close eye on her. When she called to say there had been an accident there was panic all round. He dropped everything he was doing and rushed straight to the hospital."

Friends of Coco say she's recovering well, and plans to finish the album before going back to Britain.

Trudie and Sting have four children together, Mickey, 25, Jake 24, Coco, 18, and Giacomo, 13.

Miley Cyrus Can't Wait To Be A Soccer Mom

In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, Miley answered that annoying question that everybody asks when you're 16: where do see yourself in 10 years? Unlike most, Miley has a surprisingly realistic mental picture. And no, she's not pregnant.

"I'll be a soccer mom," she says. "Like Posh Spice. I'll be there in my heels cheering on my kids. 'Go, team, go!' But I'll have no idea what's going on."

Is Miley implying that Posh doesn't understand the sport of soccer? Because the quote can kinda be read that way. Of all the soccer moms out there, I imagine that Posh has a pretty keen understanding -- seeing as though she's sat through quite a few of Becks' matches.

It's kinda weird to think that Miley Cyrus dreams of being a soccer mom (albeit a really rich one). No? As a child superstar, I guess its good to have some realistic goals, because you never know when or if that gravytrain of a career will hit a dead end. In 10 years, do you think Miley Cyrus will still be a superstar?

Michael Jackson Feels "Wise and Sage" But Not Little Boys

Yesterday was Michael Jackson's 50th birthday. In an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America," Mikey said that he's having a "wonderful time and relaxing." Probably in a hyberbaric chamber filled with chicken blood or something.

The King of All Things ~~Weird~~ Pop told GMA for his birthday he would "just have a little cake with my children and we'll probably watch some cartoons" before getting right back to work. Yeah, that last album was slamming, wasn't it? When was that again? 1985? Can't wait for the new work.

"I am also raising my children and enjoying it and teaching them to ride bicycles and how to read," he said. Teaching them to read? Um, let's see, Prince Michael is 11, Paris is 10, and Prince Michael II is 6. Dude, if you're kids aren't reading by now, you're an immense failure in the parenting department.

Oh, shut it. Like he was up for any parenting awards? The man dangles children over balconies. He shouldn't have custody of himself, let alone children. If you don't think those kids are going to make an entire squad of therapists very rich some day, you're deluded.

Where in the World is Robert MacNaughton?

That's Robert MacNaughton on the right. He played the older brother in some movie called E.T. back in the day. I guess that other kid is E.T., but I could be wrong.

Strollerderby is asking what happened to Mr. MacNaughton since we saw him last. It's part of their "Rich or Rehab" series, or in this case "Home or Ouch."

Color me disappointed. These two guys should have been BFF's forever.

Alcohol often causes problems with friends and family. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman have long feuded because of this very problem: on the Haim side, anyway.

Since filming 'The Two Coreys' six months ago, Haim and Feldman have not spoken to each other. During the show, Feldman, Todd Bridges and Pauly Shore confronted Haim about his alcohol abuse. The video is here. Feldman said of Haim, "I don’t feel that he's a safe person to have around my wife and child at the moment, for a multitude of reasons."

Haim, who claims he is 100% clean and sober these days, responded, "I will always love Corey Feldman, but I lost 105 percent respect for him and his wife."

How very sad.

Juno We're Not Responsible

Um, no we're not responsible. That's what Jason Bateman had to say to Access Hollywood about the 17 Massachusetts girls who got pregnant at the same time so they could have and raise their kids together.

“Unfortunately, we’ve had these instances where guys kill people because of what they hear in rock ‘n roll lyrics or some garbage like that. Look, if you’re going to blame a movie or song for your actions, whether they be good or bad, I think you’re looking at the wrong things to influence your life.”

What a polite answer. Here around the water cooler all we can say is, Really!, you've got to be kidding me, why on earth would they do that and where were their parents. That's the nice version.

He's a much nicer person than I am.

Jason Bateman-Is All Growns Up

Jason Bateman, 39, is all grown up.

Jason Bateman lucked out when he landed the role of Michael Bluth on Arrested Development and he knows it. He says, "A lot of people in America didn’t watch Arrested Development but folk in LA did and they’re the ones hiring." That role brought him back to the attention of Hollywood. He has been working non-stop since then, which is a double edged sword because all the work takes him away from his wife Amanda and his daughter Francesca.

His wife Amanda is the daughter of the famous 60's singer Paul Anka and Jason has said that she is a big part of the reason that helped him grow up and be a great husband and father.

In talking about his wife Amanda he said in an interview with The Independant "She was a very close friend, and it’s worked because I don’t need to be in a certain mood to like her – she’s like a friend who you never tire of. And since then I haven’t been picking jobs that are frivolous and celebrity-making; they are jobs that are career-making. Hopefully I’ve made some decisions and I’ll reap the benefits. My wife is definitely responsible for a lot of that.”

Jason also talked about the movie Juno, "I mean, Juno's a good film but, good God! They talked about it like it was the second coming. And then, there's other films that get slammed like Smokin' Aces, which I had a small part in. I thought Joe Carnahan did an incredible job and they killed him for it. But who knows? All you can do is just act in these things."

I always thought he was such a punk in Silver Spoons. I remember the episode in which Ricky and Derrick were going to open a shop and Derrick wanted to call it "DERRICKS" so it would have both of their names in it.

Hannah Montana 'Nice' And Britney Spears 'Naughty'

According to E-Poll Market Research, after conducting a nationwide survery among 1,107 kids, ranging in age from 2-17, wanted to know who they thought would make Santa's list of "naughty" or "nice."

Kids, in their own words said:

Topping Santa's "Nice List:" Hannah Montana was overwhelmingly thought of as the "nicest" celeb among kids between the ages of 2-12. Teenagers between 13-17, thought actress and star of Beowulf, Angelina Jolie was the "nicest" celebrity in 2007.

Oh and guess who topped the "naughty" list? Britney Spears. Now that's a surprise. Both younger and older children ranked her top, followed by Paris Hilton. And, just to put icing on the cake, Britney and Paris beat out Swiper the Fox from Dora the Explorer! They also beat out the Grinch and Darth Vader. The force certainly isn't with Spears and Hilton now is it? Lindsay Lohan and Beyonce also made the "naughty" list (but Britney and Paris beat them too, ha).

Hannah Montana (played by Miley Cyrus) is top for "Barbie" dolls that kids want for the holiday season.

No Harry Potter For Madonna's Daughter, Lourdes

Previous reports indicated that Madonna's daughter, Lourdes was being sought after for a lead role in the new Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but producers have squashed that rumor.

Earlier sources had said that the studio wanted Lourdes to join the cast of the movie and that she was eager to accept the part. Not so says an insider at Warner Brothers, who insists that the casting for the film are complete and that Lola (Lourdes) is not part of the cast. "Casting is complete on the film, and she is not a part of it," the insider said.

Harry Potter and Madonna?

It seems Warner Bros wants music icon, Madonna's, 11 year old daughter, Lourdes, in the next Harry Potter moive- The Half-Blood Prince.

Sources say that the studio bigwigs have asked Lourdes, also nicknamed Lola, to join the cast and that she really wants to do the role. It's a once in a lifetime deal!

“An executive at Warners wanted to cast Lola in the last Potter film and has renewed his interest for the next movie. Lola would love to do it - she is a huge fan,” a source told The Sun. “Lola has definitely inherited her mother’s hunger for fame. After all her recent public appearances, looking more like a sophisticated teen than a child, the attention on her is really growing. Offers have poured in - film offers, sponsorship.”

Madge's daughter has also been offered a role in a kids' musical in development by Warner Bros. As well, there's H&M's offer to get her to launch a line of kids' clothes designed by Lourdes. However, mom Madonna has big reservations about all of this and feels her daughter is just too young for the "fame game." I can't say I blame her. Seeing how the "child stars" of today sometimes turn out, would make any parent never want their kid to be in the spotlight!

Bindi Irwin: Hip-Hop Star?

I just don't know what to think of Bindi Irwin. She's, like, totally adorable, of course, and the loss of her father was heartbreaking, but am I the only one who thinks that she might be teetering just a leetle too closely to the edge of overexposure? If all the appearances and performances and clothing line and videos and talk of movie offers weren't enough to qualify her for the Lindsay/Britney Pre-Trainwreck Training School For Girls, the fact that she's released a hip-hop single and now has her own troupe of gay back-up dancers would probably suffice.

And her recent performance on The Today Show doing the white-girl rap with said dancers would likely get her early admission, no questions asked. (See video here.)
