Lisa Marie Presley Was Afraid of Motherhood

Lisa Marie Presley feared that she wasn't going to be able to adapt to motherhood easily this time around.

Before she gave birth to her twins, Lisa Marie expected to experience post-partum depression.

Presley told Hello magazine, "That prior to the birth, she was convinced she would suffer from some form of depression when the girls arrived - because looking after twins is such hard work."
"I was expecting to go into some severe post-partum land. I was waiting for it to hit me. I had a couple of episodes of crying but they weren't unfounded. I'm glad it didn't actually get me. Everything is so freaky. 'Are they breathing? Are they OK?' They're so fragile. That freaks me out."

Post-Partum Depression effects so many women but, "Postpartum depression was more often reported by teenage moms, mothers with less than 12 years of education, Medicaid patients, smokers, victims of physical abuse before or during pregnancy, and women under traumatic or financial stress during pregnancy."

Were you afraid of PPD? I was not afraid of it, but was affected by it nonetheless.

Lily Allen Talks About Miscarriage

Singer Lily Allen spoke out for the first time about her miscarriage recently. There aren't words to describe how devastating a miscarriage can be, and Lily says she required treatment in a "nuthouse" to cope with the grief.

Lily, 23, talked about her 3 weeks of psychiatric care following the loss of her baby in January of 2008. "I was really depressed," she says, "and I'd kind of lost the plot a bit. It was quite a nasty time. But it was quite nice being in there. No one could get to me. No one knew I was there."

If not for losing the baby, Lily believes that her romance with Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers might have worked. Despite the tragedy, she says she still wants children. "I want to take them to school and make breakfast and packed lunches."

Is Kristen Dunst Ready to be a Mom

Heaven help us, Kirsten Dunst wants to be a mom, one day.

Now that's just mean. I know, I started writing this and then watched a rather poignant Scrubs and have no bluster left.

So here are the facts, She feels that her career isn't the most important thing. She has some life goals that she would like to accomplish. Once she does that, she would like to start a family.

Hopefully she will get her issues taken care of first. To be a good mom you need to have your head on somewhat straight.

Spider-Man Tobey Maguire and wife Jennifer went out to Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch yesterday with little 23-month-old Ruby Sweetheart. Guess it's that time of year again, eh? I wonder what costume Ruby will wear this Halloween?

I can't tell you what I'm dressing as...it's a secret. It may not be as cool as what Ruby is going as, but still.

Wow! That was fast!
The Jolie-Pitt family must have been feeling the constraints of the big city and the crush of photographers because they are already back home in France.
The family arrived in Nice early this morning in their PJ's with bed head ready to relax away from the public eye. They will have a normal week in France before they are off to Germany and Brad's new film.

Heather Locklear Was Arrested

Heather Locklear is having a rough year.

Heather Locklear was arrested on the suspicion of driving under the influence. What kind of influence is still to be determined by the police investigating the arrest. Heather has been released on her own recognizance and did not have to post bail.

The arrest took place in Santa Barbara on Saturday, just two months after Heather completed a rehab stint for "anxiety and depression". The anxiety and depression may have been triggered by the alcohol and pill taking, which was the rumored real reason Heather was in rehab.

Why does everybody think that 1 month is a long enough rehab time, for a habit that has been building for such a long time? Anyone can go for a month without something, especially if they are used to Lent.

Vince Young is a Mama's Boy?

Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans is, apparently, a mama's boy- not that there is anything wrong with that.

Strollerderby is running a piece on Young that explains no matter how old you are, or how big of a celebrity you become, you're still somebody's baby. Accept it.

Vince is having some other issues though, and hopefully he works through them quick and safe.

I thought long and hard about what to title this post, but then realized there was nothing better than "Sarah Palin's Tanning Bed." It's a punchline in itself, sort of like "Vern Troyer Sex Tape."

Apparently the ‘Mother, Moose Hunter, Maverick’ had a tanning bed installed in the governor's mansion in 2007. Roger Wetherell, a government official in Alaska, confirms it to US magazine. "She did. She paid for it with her own money. It was done shortly after she took office [in early 2007] and moved into the mansion."

Tanning beds can cost up to $35,000 to install in a home - not including the cost of parts, says Alaska-based tanning parlor manager Erin Weise. In the understatement of the year, Weise says, "I don't think it's normal for people to have a tanning bed in their house."

Ironically, Palin's soul mate, John McCain has twice battled skin cancer, and Palin herself declared May 2007 Skin Cancer Awareness Month in Alaska. The press release read, "Skin cancer is caused, overwhelmingly, by over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and from tanning beds.”

It's hard to believe that the mother of five children, one of whom has special needs, couldn't think of something better to spend that wad of cash on. Then again, life just sort of takes care of itself when you've got a nicely bronzed bod and a freezer packed with moose meat.

Spider-Man No Workey Without Family Time

Tobey Maguire will once again reprise his biggest role as Spder-Man in the fourth and fifth films, which will be filmed back-to-back over 6 months next year. He'll get paid a record $50 million to do so AND he's got a "family clause" written into his contract. This means he'll be granted early mornings and evenings off to spend with his 22-month-old daughter Ruby Sweetheart.

Sony studios realized that without this family clause, Maguire would very likely not return to their much-needed role. In fact, the Sony chairman, Amy Pascal (a mother herself), came in to grant the request, saying 6 months with no family time just isn't right. This worried Sony. They don't want to set a precedent in future contracts.

But money talks, as they say. After all, the first 3 Spider-Man movies racked up over $1.5 BILLION worldwide. There's also a Broadway musical in the works, which Bono is penning songs for. I can't imagine how awful THAT'S going to be. They've already cast Jim Sturgess ("The Other Boleyn Girl" and "Across the Universe") as Peter Parker and Evan Rachel Wood ("Once and Again" and "Bronte") as Mary Jane.

We should know in the next few days whether or not Kirsten Dunst will come back to the films as Mary Jane Watson. She's said to be melting down with some kind of diva'ish depression of late. Some say she's just a bitch, but I don't see that depression and bitchdom are mutually exclusive.

Amy Grant Teaching Her Kids to Have Manners...How Novel

Amy Grant has been in the music business for a long time. This year is her 30th in show business, in fact. The Queen of Christian Pop is 47 now and married to country superstar Vince Gill, 51, and they have a 7-year-old daughter together. Grant and Gill also have children from their previous marriages.

In her interview with BeliefNet, Amy talks about a great many things, including advice for today's female celbs, depression, and her marriage. One thing that seems really odd in this day and age is her determination to raise her children with this weird little thing called respect.

"It really starts with the older people under the roof to raise the bar and be respectful. You cannot yell at your children and expect them to treat you with respect. That's really the challenge and the blessing of trying to invest good things in your family."

No yelling at children? That leaves smacking them in the mouth, I suppose.

Catherine Tate Talks About Post Partum

Post partum depression sucks. Many women experience post partum depression and don't even know it. Catherine Tate has come forward to admit how worried she is about having another baby after suffering PPD. Heck, it took me forever to figure out that PPD was what was wrong with me.

Catherine Tate, recently on "Doctor Who", said that her experience with PPD has left her worried about getting pregnant again but that she hopes that it won't stop her from having another child because she doesn't want her daughter Erin who is 5 to be an only child.

PPD is a real and worrisome depression that affects a lot of women and many have no clue what it's all about or what to do to help. Post Partum depression is nothing to kid or joke about. I'm thankful when women recognize the symptoms and get the help that they need.

Is Michael Jackson Dying?

Sources are concerned about some pictures of the pop star that recently surfaced.

Jackson was seen wearing a hospital mask and being pushed in a wheechair. It's reported that the former pop star is financially drained, which has resulted in the demise of his health. Sources say he is depressed and it's affecting him physically.

“There are constant rumours of a Michael Jackson comeback but it was shocking to see that in reality he is a shadow of his former self.

“He seemed too weak even to get out of the chair to cross the road himself. He stayed in the store for two hours and wheeled himself around in the chair the whole time.

“The skin on his hands was peeling, almost like a snake’s. He kept his mask on all the time. His security man was at his side and nobody approached him. It is really sad.”

Jackson turns 50 in August but has the appearance of someone much older. He is fraile and gaunt. “He has days when he is fine but others when he feels listless and too weak to walk. Then he calls for the wheelchair.

“Usually on those days he also refuses to get dressed, spending all day in his pyjamas.”

“Jacko is struggling for money and needs to work. “There’s huge interest in a comeback, but there are doubts that Jacko can pull it off. He isn’t strong enough — mentally or physically.”

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling says that she came very, very close to committing suicide in the years before Harry Potter became a global bestseller. What saved her? Her daughter, Jessica.

Rowling says: "We're talking suicidal thoughts here, we're not talking 'I'm a little bit miserable.'"

"The thing that made me face the fact that this was not a normal state that I was in was probably my daughter [Jessica, then a baby].

"She was something that earthed me, grounded me, and I thought, 'This isn't right, this can't be right, she cannot grow up in this state,'" Rowling added.

With her regular doctor away at the time of her depression, she began seeing a therapist who "absolutely saved me."

Rowling said she has "never been remotely ashamed of having been depressed. Never."

"I think I'm abnormally shameless on that account because what's to be ashamed of?"

She urges anybody suffering from depression to "go and get help.

"I went through a really rough time," Rowling added, "and I'm quite proud of the fact that I got out of that."

And Harry Potter fans everywhere are very, very grateful.

Brooke Shields' Mother Hates Her Husband

Oops, did I write that? I meant to say, Brooke Shields' mother prefers her ex husband Andre Agassi over her current husband, Chris Henchy - which loosely translates to she hates her daughter's husband. I guess I got it right the first time.

Shields' mom Teri tells the National Enquirer that "she's disappointed in her daughter." Ouch.

"I don't see Brooke or my granddaughters much, and if they do come over, it's only for a little while and then they're gone.

"I wish I could see Brooke, but all she does is work." Wasn't Teri Shields a pushy stage mom? Hmm.

"But (she) always makes time to visit her friends no matter how busy she is."

Teri - besides the whole "disappointed" issue, is not thrilled with Brooke's man Chris Henchy, claiming that he influences her to snap at her mother. "I'm often disappointed in (Brooke), like the time she snaps: 'What do you ever do for me?' That's what her husband tells her to say."

"I preferred Brooke's first husband, Andre Agassi, over Chris."

Um, maybe, just maybe your daughter snaps at you because you're a ~~crusty beeyotch~~ bit overbearing. Also, when you tell the world you prefer your daughter's ex husband to her current one, that may cause a tad bit of tension. Yikes.

According to TMZ, the former Designing Women star checked herself into an L.A.-area psychiatric hospital last week for depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and "hoarding." In an interview with TMZ Burke, who is married to actor Gerald McRaney, talks about how hoarding has ruined her life, but she has confidence she'll be able to conquer it.

After battling post-partum depression the first time around, it seems that Brooke is a lot more smiley these days.

Brooke, however, came through her depression and is now a happy, healthy mom of two sweet girls!

Britney's Darkest Family Secrets: Depression, Suicide and Lost Babies

The most recent pile of skeletons to fall out of the Spears' family closet is so disturbing as to make one fervently wish that history doesn't repeat itself. Britney may be careening down the tracks of repeated trainwrecks, but it seems that her personal tragedies (struggling for custody of kids, fighting drug-use accusations, battling a declining career) haven't yet reached the depths of tragedy reached by Spears' of earlier generations.

According to an upcoming edition of Us Weekly (the same edition trumpeting the more salacious stories about Britney losing her virginity at age 14), Britney's grandmother Emma Jean Spears suffered from depression and committed suicide. She is said to have shot herself at her 3-day old daughter's grave after losing the infant when Jamie Britney's father) was just a child. Emma jean was just 31 years old, and had reportedly attempted suicide a few times before.

That's a terrible, terrible, terrible thing. More terrible when one considers that clinical depression can become a legacy in families, passed down between generations.

Makes one sorta want to reconsider that 'Prayers For Britney' thing that was too easy to make fun of the other day.

Kerry Katona: "My Hubby's More Romantic Than David Beckham"

I miss being a 20-something. Some of us sure think we know everything during that decade. Kerry Katona, 27, is no exception. She thinks the fact that David Beckham sends Victoria a yellow rose every day is not a great expression of his love.

'The most romantic thing Mark and I do for each other is tell each other we love each other about 50 times a day,' says Kerry, 27.

'I think that means a lot more than buying things for each other and all that.' She went on to say that the yellow rose means infidelity. MEOW!

In another blast against Beckham, she was furious with Beckham's accidental walk through the paparazzi during a walkthrough for jurors in the Princess Diana inquest, 'It looked like she was trying to steal the show,' Kerry rants.

'I can't believe she walked – with her entourage – straight in front of the world's paparazzi! It was so sad and desperate.'

Katona believes Posh purposely turned up in black dress and sunglasses to mimic the outfit the Princess wore on the evening she was killed in a car crash.

'She was even dressed like Diana 10 years ago. I think she's desperate to be Diana,' Kerry claims in OK! 'But she'll never be the People's Princess!'

Beckham's people maintain the incident was accidental and that Victoria would never do anything to disrespect the Princess.

Sounds like Katona needs to keep her mouth shut.

Kerry Katona Discusses Her Bi-Polar Disorder

Pregnant with her fourth child, former Atomic Kitten star, Kerry Katona openly discussed her bi-polar disorder after appearing in an interview with Andrew Castle on GMTV. During the interview where she was acting peculiar, it was rumored she was on drugs. She takes Effexor for bi-polar disorder to keep her "on a level and sane" but denies any use of street drugs.

"Yes, I am on drugs. It's my bipolar medication, it's nothing else, I'm pregnant for God's sake," she remarked, explaining that nervousness, dry mouth and fatigue are side effects of Effexor.

The 27-year-old added: "When I was on GMTV, I was suffering from a bit of nerves but that also was to do with the fact that I haven't done telly for so long."

House: Hugh Laurie Struggles With Depression

I love me some Dr. House. As it turns out though, his intense demeanor on-screen is very real. He agonizes over every scene, saying, “I’m too neurotic and too anal and too convinced that we’re going to fail to relax. Every show we do, every scene we shoot, is a disaster, I’m convinced of it. “I go home at the end of the day and my head is full of all the mistakes I’ve made. “I beat myself up about what I’ve stuffed up the day before,” he added. “I’m looking for things to go wrong. I’m not rejoicing or lying back and enjoying it.”

The overnight success of the show has 'drained him,' he admitted candidly in an interview with the Sydney Daily Telegraph. Laurie is being treated for "mild depression," and recently took an emergency trip home to London, where his wife, Jo, and their three children, Charlie, Bill and Rebecca, reside. At the time, a show rep said that “Hugh had family obligations in England to attend to, but production is continuing in his absence.”

That's unfortunate, though I'm glad to hear he's managing it. His depth as a character shines through, so it's too bad that he's feeling so poorly about it.

Reese Witherspoon: Successful, Sad, and Silenced

When I read this well-described take on an interview with Reese Witherspoon, written by Christopher Goodwin, for Times Online, I was captivated not only by the description he gave of Reese, but the insight he seemed to have on the highest-paid actress in America.

Goodwin writes:

Witherspoon acknowledges that she has always been incredibly driven, and has felt a deep need to prove herself to other people. Even now, after rising to the top of the pay charts, with an Oscar under her belt, she says she feels that she is “underestimated”. “I honestly don’t know where that comes from. As a child, I made great grades in school and had some friends – not a lot of friends, but a significant number – and, I don’t know, I’ve always felt this need to accomplish and push myself further. And I don’t feel like people really have any idea what I am capable of.”

Once Goodwin has Reese opening up, he is quickly told to stop asking personal questions by the publicist, in a very bizarre way:

I have interviewed the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan in the deepest forests of Arkansas. I have been surrounded by machete-wielding guerrillas in the jungles of southern Mexico. I have powwowed with murderous, drug-crazed gang leaders in the slums of Belize. But, believe me, you have never known terror until you’ve confronted one of Hollywood’s most ferocious publicists coming at you across the soft carpet of a Beverly Hills hotel room on her hands and knees.

It seems such a shame, too, to shut Witherspoon down at this point.
