Who is the best rapper alive? Slim Shady himself - Eminem! He beat out over 50 of the top rappers, even popular stars like Lil' Wayne and Jay-Z....

VIBE online conducted a poll, which started on July 21, to find out who fans of rap thought was the best rapper alive and 920,000 votes later, they have their answer.

In a landslide decision - despite the rapper not having an album release since 2004, Eminem took 69% of the votes, beating out Jay-Z, who had 31%.

Eminem said, "It's obviously an honor to have won the fans' support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive. I don't think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since VIBE's offering the distinction, hell yeah I'll accept!"

Has rapper Eminem died in a car crash or is this another sick rumor started by someone online? And if it's a rumor, why do people start a story like that?

Apparently blogs are a blaze with reports of the singer dying in a car crash Sunday night. However, there are no credible news sources that are confirming such a story.

This isn't the first time that Slim Shady was reported dead - the same sort of story appeared back in 2000. The website Urban Legends had issued a statement, reading:

“We read on the Internet on Sunday, December 17 that Slim Shady, a.k.a. Eminem, died in a car crash at 2:30 in the morning. According to this article he was on his way to a late-night party and was drunk and high on drugs.”

According to this site, he's very much alive. Hopefully his family didn't hear of such rumors online!

Eminem has laid low for the last couple of years and had people speculating on what he was doing. There were reports that he wasn't well, and had gained a considerable amount of weight but his good friend 50 Cent defended him, saying he was "doing okay." But although his health might not be a concern, he's got legal woes now. The hip-hopper beat up some dude two years ago in a strip club and now he's getting his butt sued off....sorta....

The guy suing Eminem is only seeking damages in the amount of $25,000, which for Em is probably peanuts. From The Huffington Post:

"A man has sued Eminem, claiming the rapper punched him two years ago while they were in the bathroom of a Detroit strip club.

The Detroit News reports Miad Jarbou of Royal Oak filed the lawsuit Thursday in Oakland County Circuit Court seeking more than $25,000 in damages. The suit claims Eminem punched him July 13, 2006, at Cheetah’s On the Strip Gentlemen’s Club.

Eminem spokesman Dennis Dennehy declined to comment Friday on the lawsuit.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, wasn’t charged following reports of an incident at the club in 2006.

The strip club is located on Eight Mile Road, the border between Detroit and the northern suburbs made famous by Eminem’s hit 2002 film “8 Mile.”

Apparently the dude, Jarbou approached Eminem while he was taking a leak at the urinal, and continued to bother him, being obnoxious. Um, I'd punch him too. Seriously, let the guy finish before asking for an autograph! Admittedly violence doesn't solve anything (hopefully he explained this to daughter Hailie), but if you're pestering someone while they're using the bathroom, then you kinda, sorta, deserve a smack.

50 Cent says that people should stop dissing Eminem for his supposed weight gain. Because, you know, it's not nice, and also, because Em's in shape now and will kick your ass.

According to MTV.com, 50 laughed off (in a recent MTV interview) recent rumors that Em — who has all but disappeared from the public eye in recent years — has been packing on the pounds, and that as a result of his weight gain, has become a recluse, venturing out of his Detroit-area mansion only to gorge himself on meals from Taco Bell and Outback Steakhouse. The G-Unit captain insisted that fans are going to be seeing a slim-and-trim Eminem real soon.

"Em is in shape right now. He looks good. I seen him in Detroit. He's gonna look real good when you see him return," Fif laughed. "He's in shape right now."

Rumors started circulating that Eminem was looking like a middle-aged dad (which, um, he is, depending upon how you define 'middle-age') earlier this year when Eminem was admitted to a Detroit hospital for complications arising from pneumonia and it was reported that he weighed over 200 lbs (the approximate weight of a 5 foot 8 nine-month pregnant woman *cough*)

But Fiddy says whatever weight Eminem might have gained in his sabbatical from his previously high-profile life, it's gone now. According to him, Eminem is in fine ballin' form: "The last time I seen him we played basketball together," 50 said. Which, awesome. Fiddy sounds like a great lifestyle coach and personal trainer.

I wonder if he takes post-partum clients?

50 Cent: Eminem Isn't Doing As Poorly As Reported

Rapper 50 Cent is a friend to Eminem and he says that Eminem isn't doing as badly as was reported. Eminem was said to have gained quite abit of weight - putting him over 200 pounds and on his 5'7" frame, that would make him borderline obese. However, 50 Cent says "he's doing ok" and that earlier reports exaggerated his health issues.

50 Cent is busy these days, going behind the cameras. He said, "I'm starting a production company right now. I decided to come out here to announce my film career, and Vitaminwater is behind me all the way." 50 also mentioned Eminem: "I got a chance to see him a few weeks ago and people think he is in a worse state than he actually is." That's good to know that he's doing better than everyone believed.

As well, the photo that was making the rounds (below), showing Marshall Mathers being quite big, was from the National Enquirer and was labeled as NOW and did not include any disclaimer - was actually a picture that was taken in March of 2006 and was Photoshopped by the Enquirer. Super.

Hopefully the rapper/actor will be back in business soon!

Slim Shady Not So Slim: Eminem Is Fat

Music artist Eminem was hospitalized during the Christmas holidays for heart problems and complications from pneumonia. It's been reported that he gained quite a bit of weight and is now over 200 pounds. According to The Enquirer, he's only 5'7" and that would make him borderline obese if he indeed weighs that much.

The above photo is said to be a fairly recent one and I must say he does not look well. Besides the extreme weight gain, he looks pasty and bloated. I really hope he's okay!

Eminem has been dealing with a few personal problems over the past couple of years: the breakup of his second go-round with Kim Mathers, mourning the loss of his best friend, rapper Proof. His mom was fighting stage four breast cancer and although they did reconcile, she wrote a book to cash in on her son's fame, My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem. His mother says that Marshall suffers from bipolar disorder and that he lied about his "rags to riches" life story.

A source talked about his weight gain:

“He’s got a double chin, a pot-belly and droopy man-breasts. And he’s living a reclusive lifestyle in an attempt to hide his new body,” says the insider.

Eminem’s maternal grandmother Better Kresin told The Enquirer she blames his ongoing food binge on being stressed out about his two failed marriages to ex-wife Kim.

“He really wanted it to work between them, to have a happy family life for their daughter Hailie Jade, something he claims he never had while growing up.”

Whatever is going on with Eminem, I hope he gets it sorted out and gets back to his healthy lifestyle and making music!

Eminem Hospitalized.

Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, was hospitalized over the holidays because a heart condition and severe pneumonia. And his health has, reportedly, been further complicated by a dramatic weight gain.

"Over the holidays, Marshall Mathers was under doctor's care at a Detroit-area hospital for complications due to pneumonia," the rapper's publicist, Dennis Dennehy, said Tuesday. "He has since been released and is doing well recovering at home." TMZ.com elaborated on the statements when they reported that Eminem was rushed to the hospital over the holidays for a serious heart condition and severe pneumonia, and noted that the rapper - formerly a well-muscled lightweight - now weighs in at well over 200 pounds. Rapid and significant weight gain is not good for the heart. (And, no, I will not make any Slim Shady jokes here.)

Here's hoping that he recovers fully, and that he can get back to healthy fighting weight. His kids - and (ahem) his fans - need him.
