Is Sarah Palin's Marriage in Trouble?

Sarah Palin has suddenly stopped wearing her wedding ring and started wearing a large bandage.

What goes on here?

Is the strain of it all getting to the Palin marriage? It would be understandable if that were the case. Between the kids, campaigning, and legal issues, they are fighting battles on many fronts and that can't leave much time for wine and roses. Maybe some Guns and Roses.

And then there is the bandage.

Polar bear attack? Was the wolf not quite dead yet? Paper cut from one of EVERY newspaper that she reads? Rope burn? Nelly fan?

Here's my theory, which is just a guess, and frankly not nearly as exciting as a moose bite: the disposal. This reeks of classic wedding ring in the garbage disposal. Nothing cuts a hand better than a dig through chicken bones and forgotten silverware.

But I'm not ruling out the moose thing.

In the Bleachers Gets It

Steve Moore's daily comic In the Bleachers is always pretty funny. I read it every Sunday morning in the L.A. Times while I sip my coffee and listen to jazz*. It's what I do.

Today Moore brought my worlds together. Football is nigh (I couldn't be more excited) and I write about celebrities for a living. Peanut butter and chocolate, man. Peanut butter and chocolate.

Moore, who is the father of 3 young children (and the force behind the animated hit Open Season) perfectly captures the impact that celebrity is having on our culture and he runs with it- and the ball.

Kudos, Mr. Moore.

*the soundtrack for today was John Coltrane, Nina Simone and some early Tom Waits (I know, not "jazz", but still awesome)

New York Post: Heath Ledger Was "'Reckless, Greedy and Selfish."

Andrea Peyser of the New York Post has written a scathing post about Heath Ledger that has talk shows reeling with debate. I cannot believe the NY Post published this piece of trash.

Peyser wrote:

"There is nothing noble or beautiful about the so-called accidental death of Heath Ledger, a man with everything to live for - a beautiful daughter, a blossoming career, and a Victoria's Secret catalogue-full of willing babes," News.com.au quoted her, as stating in her column.

"He threw it away, as gamely as if he had put a gun to his mouth and pulled the trigger. He was reckless and greedy. He was fundamentally selfish.

"Now his daughter will grow up never knowing the man she worshipped from birth; his parents must bury a son they cherished," she added.

Peyser further said that people should not cry for Ledger.

"Cry for Heath's daughter. Cry for his parents. Cry for Michelle Williams. But don't cry for Heath," she said.

The View's Whoopi Goldberg said the columnist was "pot shotting."

"If you're going to say 'cry for his wife and cry for his daughter' then you cannot sit there and not cry for him," Goldberg said.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck co-host on 'The View,' said the column was 'irresponsible'.

"I thought 'You don't know him'. For me, it just made me sad because he was dealing with some demons be it depression or anxiety or a lack of sleep," Hasselbeck said.

"To not know someone's situation and certainly not knowing their intention, to make those claims, I thought was slightly irresponsible," she added.

The entire piece is vile, hateful and above all else, ignorant. The truth about Heath ledger has been told -- we released it within days of the accident. He suffered from depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, as Hasselbeck said. He did run with a crowd who did drugs and he himself was not into that. The man was troubled. These drugs he took to try and give himself some relief, some sleep, ended fatally and was 100% an accident. I doubt Peyser knew Ledger. I doubt she knew his friends.

The man needed help, no question -- but his death was not a suicide. It was the result of poor medical care and a failing health system, which includes the pathetic mental health system America has.

Art Alexakis Welcomes Everclear Baby

Art Alexakis, best known as the frontman of Everclear, welcomed a new daughter. Art is a dad for the second time (he has a 14-year-old daughter named Annabella Rose). The baby's name is Arizona Star, not to be confused with the daily paper in Tucson.

Says Alexakis:

Arizona and Vanessa [my fiancee] are doing great. We came home from the hospital yesterday and Anna has been amazing with the baby...she is so into her little sister!

Okay...the name -- Arizona is where Vee and I met and lived while she was finishing up her degrees, and Star is for my mom (Eleanor means shining light).
