Manny Ramirez Busted!

Dodgers superstar Manny Ramirez has failed a drug test and will be suspended by MLB for 50 games.

Admittedly, I'm not surprised. Man-Ram using performance enhancing drugs actually explains a lot. Not only is he too good, but he tends to be labeled a jerk by pretty much everyone that ever meets him. Think Barry Bonds with really bad hair. Really bad hair.

Ramirez will lose 7.7 million dollars during the suspension- which means that he makes more in two months than the rest of us combined will make in our collective lifetime.

However, I don't think we need to worry about his kids going hungry. The little Mannys (seriously, it's George Formanesque) should be able to get by on day old caviar and Happy Meals till this all blows over. Whether or not they get over the scar of their dad being called a cheater is a different story.

Here's Manny's spin. For the record, his new spin is the same as the old spin:

"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons.

"I want to apologize to Mr. McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, Mr. Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."

Seriously? The blame the doctor angle? I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn last night, but I'm pretty sure medical professionals that are dealing with expensive commodities like professional athletes have a pretty good understanding of what they can and cannot prescribe.

Is it just me or is the American pastime going on a quick ride in a handbasket?

Malia and Sasha - Breaking Promises Already

It's nice to know that Sasha and Malia Obama are just like every other kid out there when it comes to promises they make.

It seems the girls are slacking on their daily doggie duties. Michelle says, "Even though the kids are supposed to do a lot of the work, I'm still up at 5:15 a.m. taking my dog out. So for everyone who has a child asking for a puppy – you have to want the dog."

So the first family is just like mine and yours, with us parents left holding the bag and cleaning up after our kids and their most fervent wishes.

Is Miley Cyrus Too Good For The Obamas?

Okay, so it's really hard for the Obama girls to head out to the movies like every other little girl out there so they asked Miley Cyrus if she be willing to send them a copy of the movie for a White House Screening.

Guess what the brat with a sense of entitlement said, she said NO!

Miley said, "They want me to send them a copy, so we will - but, like everyone else, they have to wait 'til April 10th. Even the President."

Wow! I guess she won't ever be invited to the White House, poor girl, she really thinks something of herself doesn't she?

Michelle Obama Wants To Be A Role Model

So, I think we've all done the Michelle Obama isn't pregnant thing to death.

What we haven't discussed though, is her dedication to her workout regimen. Not only is she determined to be in the best shape of her life, she wants her daughters to, " See a mother who takes care of herself, even if that means I have to get up at 4:30 so I can do a workout."

She also described Barack's excitement at Sasha's interest in basketball, "Barack's losing his mind, I was like, 'Settle down - don't act too excited, or she will not want to do it.'"

That's awesome, my husband and I try to take a little time each day to stop and play and do something physical with our boys for the same reason.

Eva Herzigova - Role Model or Too Thin?

Wow! Eva Herzigova looks super skinny. I thought designers were trying to get away from the ultra skinny and mover toward a thin but healthy look?

How can Eva possibly have the energy to run around after her two year old, when she looks like she's starving to death?

It doesn't seem fair that she is so skinny and because she is a model she is looked to as an icon for women and young girls everywhere. How are you supposed to tell your daughters that it isn't healthy to strive to be that skinny? I don't have daughters, I have sons and I wouldn't know where to start in a conversation like that.

Ann Coulter Hates Single Moms & Compares Celeb Adoptions To Celeb Sex Tapes

Ann Coulter's new book Guilty and what she's written in it, is causing quite a stir, particularly among single mothers, and also single moms who choose to adopt children (particularly from other countries), including celebrities. She writes of the famous adopting children in foreign countries, "Apparently, busting up tribal wars to adopt foreign babies has become the latest form of Hollywood autoeroticism."

Coulter says that celebrities often adopt children for selfish reasons, such as using their new baby to promote their career - refers to celebrity adoptions as a "trend," and compares celebrity adoptions to celebrity sex tapes. She's certainly not making any friends is she?

After her recent "heated" appearance on The View, Coulter sits down with Showbiz Tonight host A.J. Hammer and discusses said appearance and her opinions on celebrities using their babies to promote themselves. I find it really hard to like this woman or to even try to dig through some of the crap she spews to see if any of what she says has any merit.

Ann Coulter appeared with the women of The View on Monday and let's just say things got heated, quickly. And I have to give Elisabeth Hasselbeck props for asking a great question - In Coulter's newly released book Guilty, she discusses single motherhood,blaming single moms for a variety of criminal activities that include rape and murder, and Elisabeth asked why she doesn't come down as hard on the fathers who abandon the children? I can't believe this woman. Coulter has enraged single moms all over the country with her remarks and I can understand why.

The L.A. Times Blogs posted an open letter from a single mom named Rachel Sarah, who happens to be a popular blogger and takes Coulter to task for her latest comments. 'Dear Ann,' writes Rachel. 'Do you mind if I call you by first name? I wouldn't want to insult you. After all, I'm a single mom and the cause of every societal problem out there today. As the day approaches for Barack Obama to be sworn in as the President of the United Sates the haters are coming out with their claws ready to strike.

Last week details of Ann Coulter's new book were released and she totally slammed Michelle Obama.

She wrote, "Her obvious imitation of Jackie O's style - the flipped-under hair, the sleeveless A-line dresses, the short strands of fake pearls - would have been laughable if done by anyone other than a media-designated saint."

The Daily News reported that, "Coulter facetiously and snidely refers to Michelle Obama as a "saint" and "Mother Teresa" and suggests that her public service career "advanced in lockstep with the political advancement of her husband."

Oh Ann Coulter, you're just jealous. You have to be nasty, we understand it makes you feel better about yourself. So go ahead, Michelle Obama can handle it.

She is is a strong woman that is a great role model for her daughters. Ann Coulter's nastiness slides off like, "water off a duck's bath."

Charles Barkley - DUI, Gun and Oral Sex: Still Not a Role Model

The Chuck stops here. For oral sex that is. Warning: Sexual language follows that may offend some people, including most of the women I've ever dated.

Emmy-winning analyst and basketball legend Charles Barkley was pulled over for running a stop sign in Scottsdale the other night. Turns out he had been drinking. Turns out there was a gun in the car (no charges on this account). Turns out there was woman in the car.

That's a lot of turning. It's like the hokey-pokey. Are you dizzy?

Here is where the oral sex part comes in (thanks for reading this far).

The woman in the car was apparently there to provide a service to Sir Charles. It was the anticipation of said service that caused him to run the stop sign. It happens.

According to TMZ: "He told me that he ran the stop sign because he was in a hurry to pick up the girl I saw get in the passenger seat. He asked me to admit that she was 'hot.' He asked me, 'You want the truth?' When I told him I did he said, 'I was gonna drive around the corner and get a blow job. He then explained that she had given him a 'blow job' one week earlier and said it was the best one he had ever had in his life."

For the record, the woman was not his wife.

This brings some questions to mind:

a) What will his wife think about this?

b) What will his daughter think about this?

c) What will the good people of Alabama, who have patiently been awaiting his campaign for Governor, think about this?

d) What will TNT think about this?

And finally, e) doesn't this kind of make him a role model to somebody?

Barkley has admitted he's a bit embarrassed- not spit on a kid embarrassed, but it's up there.

The sad commentary this provides on our society? That this sort of behavior from our public figures is so commonplace it hardly raises an eyebrow.

Sarah Palin, long before she was the GOP candidate for vice-president, long before she was the governor of Alaska, long before she was the mayor of whatever that town is called, long before she was a TV sports reporter, long before she was a mother or married, she was a beauty queen. She was in the Miss Alaska Pageant, and this is that pageant. Swimsuit edition.

Mind you, this is not a post of judgment. I'm not a hater of the beauty pageant. I can't say I've ever watched one, other than being forced by my wife to sit through Miss Congeniality, and wait, maybe I do hate pageants. That movie sucked. I digress. I don't believe that being a beauty queen in a life before kids and politics has anything to do with who she is now- although Todd Palin may disagree.

Matt Damon got it started. He said something along the lines of Sarah Palin running for vice-president was like a bad Disney movie which made me love him a little bit less because everyone knows there is no such thing as a bad Disney movie (possible exceptions include anything with The Rock or direct-to-video).

The good people at CollegeHumor thought that Damon was on to something. One thing led to another and now Head of Skate is just an Iger nod from a November release.

The potential First Dude, husband of GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and father of 5, is, according to People, "to be subpoenaed in the state investigation into whether his wife possibly abused the power of her office to have her former brother-in-law fired from his job."

Sarah Palin: Now She's a Racist?

Obviously I'm not impressed with the GOP choice of Sarah Palin. That's the burden of common sense. However, even I'm getting tired of writing about her.

The thing is, ours is to cover celebrity and parents and poke the fun. Sarah Palin, with all apologies to the Jolie-Pitts, is the most famous parent in the world right now and therefore warrants our attention. The constant soap opera that surrounds her is just too much to ignore. Too much.

Now there is a server at a Juneau restaurant claiming Governor Palin used racist and sexist terminology, loudly and publicly, in regard to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, respectively. From the LA Progressive:

According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and who asked that her last name not be used, Gov. Palin was eating lunch with five or six people when the subject of the Democrat’s primary battle came up. The governor, seemingly not caring that people at nearby tables would likely hear her, uttered the slur and then laughed loudly as her meal mates joined in appreciatively.

What did she say, allegedly? “So Sambo beat the bitch!” Nice.

She may not win the vice presidency, but I wouldn't put Role Model of the Year out her reach just yet.

Disney's Selena Gomez Has Big Shoes to Fill

Selena Gomez has been all but crowned the next 'it' teen for Disney. This is a long and impressive list, and it is also a very checkered one.

Remember when it was generally accepted that Christina Aguilera was the bad one and that Britney Spears was golden? Time is funny, isn't it? The thing is, the press loves to make a big deal about the troubles of the Disney teen idol (the girls that is, you don't hear anything about Justin Timberlake or Zac Efron- apparently gender is funny, too), but for every Lindsay Lohan spreading stank in her wake there is a Hilary Duff working hard and doing it right. For every Vanessa Anne Hudgens there is an Anne Hathaway.

The most recent young lady to sit the throne, Miley Cyrus, is in a bit of PR spin, but let's be frank, she hasn't done anything wrong. She isn't doing drugs or endangering small children. Sure, there have been pictures released that may cast question on her judgment, but hey, she wasn't nude. She's just a teenager doing teenage stuff, but unlike most kids she's filthy rich and living under a microscope. It's hard to believe the commotion a few artsy photos caused when one channel over an equally young teenage star is about ready to have a baby. Isn't that a bit more scandalous?

So, the question is, will Miss Gomez be pregnant and in rehab before sweeps week or will she be able to stay the path despite the lures and pitfalls it offers?

Her parents swear she'll be okay, and like other well-meaning showbiz parents before them are putting themselves in the position to either protect their daughter or make total asses of themselves. Hey, it happens.

According to People, Selena's mother Mandy Teefey claims that she (along with Selena's dad) will keep her daughter out of trouble. For instance, she has a midnight curfew (or earlier) and never attends events without a parent. She is also held accountable with duties around the house. Says Teefey, "If she cooks, I clean. If I cook, she cleans. She has to help feed the dogs. There are really no set chores. We just all pitch in when needed."

We hear this talk from parents all the time. I hope they manage to avoid the trappings of the limelight and don't go the way of the Lohans. I really don't want to be searching for this post in 8 months as a reference to the calm before the storm.

Miley Cyrus' Parents are to Blame: The World According to Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis knows a thing or two about posing topless. Of course the uproar over her doing so was that it was for the cover of the AARP magazine, and apparently she's too old for such frivolity. Miley Cyrus, at 15, posed pseudo-topless for Vanity Fair. She's too young.

Americans like our topless models in the 18 - 40 range.

Jamie Lee Curtis is laying the blame on Miley's parents. That isn't to say that Annie Leibovitz didn't go a bit far in her attempt at art, and yes, Miley should have realized that her posing for the pictures in question would cause her career some unwanted criticism. They deserve their share of the responsibility.

People are also bitching about Disney to the point that they felt the need to comment. Disney has nothing to do with it. That's like Nerve Media being blamed for me posing for those awkward photos last weekend. Hey, I needed the money. I didn't call Nerve to okay it, and Disney didn't have any say in Miley's spread.

But I digress. Here's what Jamie Lee Curtis wrote in The Huffington Post:

I woke up this morning concerned about the world food shortage and Korean defectors attempting self immolation in protest of Beijing and was astonished at the amount of attention a young woman named Miley Cyrus was getting for a topless, or shall I say backless, photograph in Vanity Fair.

Just to connect the dots, I too have weathered a recent bout of hysteria over a supposed topless, or shall I say strapless, photograph in a magazine. In my case it was an understanding that the photo in question be shoulders up regardless if I was wearing a suit of armor, chastity belt, wet suit, strapless bra or nothing. It is, was and will always be irrelevant and only became an issue when it was publicized as "topless". All the nipple loving/leering people wanted to know...was it true? Kids I know asked their parents and me if I had posed topless. Saturday Night Live in a funny parody alluded to it as well as the efficacy of Activia yogurt and we all had a good laugh and it sold magazines and it is/was over. Now this. (Video Below)

Apparently young Ms. Cyrus has apologized for something she was told would be artistic and now feels embarrassed about. I feel for her. Of course she is embarrassed. She is a young girl. She shouldn't have to deal with any of this. I don't feel that she was duped. I know the integrity of Ms. Liebovitz and the magazine and I know there were people present at the shoot that should have been looking out to make sure that this didn't happen. In the offending photo she looks tousled and soft and vulnerable and yes...even sexy. She is fifteen after all, and the word sex is starting to come up. I seem to remember a fourteen/fifteen year old Brooke Shields commenting that nothing came between her and her Calvins. There would be no problem if Ms. Cyrus doesn't represent something that is counterintuitive to that image.

In the article in the New York Times Business Section, a Disney executive is quoted, saying "For Miley Cyrus to be a 'good girl' is now a business decision for her. Parents have invested in her godliness. If she violates that trust, she won't get it back." In the world of constant scrutiny how can a young person not violate this and develop a mind, body and spirit of their own? Look at the '50s and the idols of that time. Many gay men with beards...sham marriages. Young stars trying out their sexuality secretly. My own mother (pre-show business) was married at 14 to be able to explore her own passions.

Today's generation of performers have had to navigate the treacherous shoals of adolescence in full frontal viewberty [sic] of the peering voyeurism of the media and it's voyeuristic participants. We have watched them as they stumble out of the safety of childhood, not that being a professional actor as a child is safe, but that is another blog, into the glare of celebrity, rehab, prison, teen pregnancy and now this, a backless shot of a young girl. It was called "artistic'. If we keep a young person's natural sexuality in check during their performing years what happens to it? It has to come out. Daniel Radcliffe is starring in Equus which includes nudity and parodied his natural urges (hilariously) on Ricky Gervais' EXTRAS. He has had to carry the weight and morals of Harry Potter and Warner Brothers and can now, as Harry has grown up and the series is nearing its end, tread lightly into adult fare and explore his art.

When these young people get all dressed up for award show red-carpet events don't we all comment how beautiful, stunning and grown-up they look in their strapless/backless dresses and heels and tousled hair? None of this is new. None of this should be news. But it is news because it is a business. It is all Business. It is called Show Business. Show Abyss-ness! I call it Show-OFF Business. You throw a child into the jaws of a business and they will get eaten.

I know how Miley feels. I too was a little embarrassed by my recent topless "scandal" and the subsequent parodies, but I am an adult woman. I protected myself during the shoot and I can take the heat. I only wish that her guardians had protected her.

Tina Fey Hates Paris Hilton

Well, perhaps hate is a bit strong, but Fey sure doesn't have any love for Hilton.

Tina Fey has, in the past called Paris Hilton a "piece of shit" (God I love Tina Fey!) and apparently she's not really changing her tune. Fey is worried about the influence that Paris has on children.

"I regret sinking to that level of discourse. But Paris is a terrible role model and a terrible young woman. She needs to be ignored." I couldn't agree more!

Fey continues, "I work with people who have 12, 13, 14- year old girls, who are fascinated by her. They look up to her, and that's not great. You can buy videotapes in which you can see her bejanis (vagina)! There's a whole generation of girls in Hollywood who think that they can stuff in the press and make it true. It's not just Paris, a whole bunch of them do." Wanna bet she's lumping Britney in there too?

We need more "Tina Feys" in this world. Oh ya baby!

Miley Cyrus addressed the rumor of her pregnancy at the Us Weekly Hot Hollywood Party. She told Extra, “It’s given me the street cred to say that would be impossible, because I’m living my life the way I believe is right and that is to stay pure.”

When asked if she believed in sex before marriage she said, “No, I don’t at all!”

Guess who has two thumbs and is happy as hell? This guy.

Anyone know where I can get a Hannah Montana ticket? Although I'd rather have the $5000!

UPDATED FOR OUR YOUNGER READERS: Hey Gang, I've noticed in some of your comments that there are a few of you that are misunderstanding Miley's situation. She was never pregnant. It was a huge hoax by some internet magazine that a lot of the media actually fell for. Miley's comments above are regarding that rumor. Her statement is that she would never become pregnant and would never have sex before marriage. She's saying good stuff. Cynthia Rodriguez is a Role Model (for Sailors, Convicts and HBO)

Cynthia Rodriguez, as reported by the New York Post, is all class. Alex Rodriguez's wife wore this trashy commentary to the ballpark. The shirt, which she wore while sitting next to her 2-year-old daughter, Natasha, says quite clearly, "F**K YOU."

She's pissed at all kinds of stuff, Yankee fans, management, the media, her husband and the bimbo he rode in on. The shirt could have been for any of them.

However, the only people that really got to enjoy it were all of the families with children that were seated behind her in the stands. Some people, frustrated by the fact that she was clearly breaking stadium policy, yet not being reprimanded by security, left with their kids in tow. I hope A-Rod refunds their tickets.

In the meantime, if you live in NYC and have children, watch out for C-Rod. She's mad as hell, and she's not going to take it anymore. Who knows what other obscenity-laced outfits she has up, or on, her sleeve. Someone should wash her shirt out with soap.

Denise Richards to Daughters: Love Your Body Image or Don't Worry, You'll be Hot

Denise Richards wants her girls to love their bodies, so she is making herself their role model. The bar has been set high.

Her daughters, Sami, 3, and Lola, 2, have inspired her to maintain a healthy diet and workout routine, which includes Pilates and weights. She claims that the best exercise is chasing the two of them around.

Apparently, the two girls making fun of each other's belly caused her to promote the message of love your body. Of course, her body is easier to love than most.

She says the biggest challenge is trying to incorporate her girls into the exercise program, even to the extent of having her trainer design special Pilates sessions with them in mind.

I really thought I would write this post and make fun of Richards. Let's face it, the girl has a serious lack of talent and an over abundance of sex appeal. That makes her prime picking. However, she's a single mom and she's instilling positive and healthy messages in her kids. She gets a pass.
