John Edwards The Father Of Rielle Hunter's Baby?

John Edwards' former mistress Rielle Hunter - whose baby girl Frances, 14 months, is rumored to be the daughter of Edwards - is upset that he's denying paternity of her child. She wants John to submit to a DNA test to prove he is the dad!

According to sources, Hunter is working with an attorney to take legal action against Edwards. This all comes with the recent release of John's wife Elizabeth's new book Relilience, in which she talks of her battle with terminal cancer, her marriage and her husband's affair. Elizabeth isn't sure if John is the father of Frances, but she admits she could be. Although John finally admitted the affair to Elizabeth - he first lied that it was a one time thing - he has adamantly denied he's the dad.

An insider said, "Rielle - probably naively - now realizes she had held onto a false promise that if she continued to take part in the cover-up John had engineered, they'd be together in the future.

"She was willing to protect John for the sake of the child. She agreed to allow a crony of his to claim he was the baby's father, and she even kept the name of the father blank on the birth certificate.

"But now she can see there's never going to be a future with John - and she feels he's lied about his promise to keep Elizabeth from trashing her in the book," claimed the source.

"Rielle is so infuriated by his and Elizabeth's actions that she's throwing her loyalty to him out of the window!"

The source added, "Rielle wants the paternity of her daughter Frances finally established. It could ruin John for good because even after admitting the affair, he vehemently denied being the father!"

What a mess. I don't know how Elizabeth has been dealing with this - can you imagine battling cancer and your partner is cheating on you? Nothing like kicking a person when they're down. How sad for the Edwards' children, too.

And baby Frances didn't ask to be born into such a sordid situation. She has every right to know both of her parents - so if John Edwards is the father, then he needs to step up and take care of her. If you're going to sleep around and end up creating a child, then you have to take responsibility.

Elizabeth Edwards sat down with Oprah this week to tell the world her story, and snippets of the convo (set to air Thursday) are making their way out.

Apparently, Elizabeth came on the show to talk about her battle with terminal cancer, John Edwards' affair, and her upcoming memoirs Resilience -- but mostly John's affair and the messy, lingering aftermath. According to Elizabeth, John may very well be a baby daddy to Rielle Hunter's 1-year-old daughter.

"I've seen a picture of the baby. I have no idea. It doesn't look like my children but I don't have any idea."

When asked whether she still loved her husband, she replied: "You know, that's a complicated question"

If you remember the story, Hunter didn't list the father's name on her daughter's birth certificate, so it's not super clear whether she actually believes John is the father or not.

Still, with all of the rumors that Rielle got hush money from John's campaign and speculation that she and the baby are living in a secret home payed for by John to keep them from being overrun by reporters like me, it looks like he's the daddy.

Patrick Swayze: Official Statement

Patrick Swayze's dreams of being a dad may not be realized, however, he's being optimistic about his cancer diagnosis. The Dirty Dancing actor's rep has issued the following statement:

"Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

Oh I so hope he's not on his deathbed - I've always loved me some Johnny and Baby dance moves.

Patrick Swayze, who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given five weeks to live, aspired to be a father but was just never able to see that dream fulfilled. Which just kind of underscores the point - which came up again and again in commentary around Heath Ledger's death - that deaths are tragic regardless of whether children are left behind.

I'll admit, though, that the fact that he and wife Lisa Neimi desperately wanted to have kids but were never able to tugs at my heartstrings in a manner similar to that provoked by Matilda Ledger's fatherless future.

In an interview with the UK's Daily Mail a couple of years ago, he commented at length on his desire to be a parent:

"I was born to be a dad and we have the perfect life for kids," he says, wistfully.

"I have started taking adults into the mountains on packhorse trips. I love that ability to survive off the land and it changes these peoples' lives when they re-connect with the earth. Adults enjoy it so much, so I can only imagine what it would be like for kids.

"We are still thinking of adopting, but you have to consider the child and not yourself. Living on a ranch teaches you a great deal about the cycle of life and, if you adopt a child, you have to be certain it is for the right reason."

Sounds like he would have been a really great dad. So, so tragic that he'll never get the opportunity to prove it.

Patrick Swayze is dying of terminal cancer of the pancreas and has been given five weeks to live. Which, oh my god. SO TERRIBLE.

Although he's been married for a gazillion years, he and wife Lisa Neimi never had children - she had, apparently, multiple miscarriages, and they consequently seem to have shied off of the kids thing - so he's kind of outside the purview of this site's gossip mandate (all parents, all the time), but still - he was a key pop figure on the cultural landscape of every Gen-X/Y man and woman I know, which is to say, my peer group of thirty-something parents, so. Who can't recite half the lines to Dirty Dancing? Nobody my age, that's who. So his impending death just feels, well, terrible and weird. Weren't he and his wife going to soft-shoe in the background of our pop-culture consciences forever?

National Enquirer is breaking the story, which they apparently have on good authority from Swayze and family:

In a shocking world exclusive, The NATIONAL ENQUIRER has uncovered the devastating news that the beloved Hollywood actor and dancer was diagnosed in late January with pancreatic cancer that has spread to other organs.

Full details are in the print edition of the NATIONAL ENQUIRER that goes on sale tomorrow.

For the past month, Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University’s prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful.

Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi — who both have pilot’s licenses — have been flying their private Beechcraft plane into Palo Alto’s airport, minutes away from the Stanford Cancer Center, where the actor has received outpatient treatment.

He received three doses of chemotherapy and the tumor shrank, but less than his doctors had hoped for — and Patrick was told he should prepare for the end.

“He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure,” said an insider.

Five weeks to live. They're giving him FIVE WEEKS.

So, so terrible.
