There are loads and loads of Chinese families here that want to adopt earthquake orphans. The government has said that Sichanese families will be given priority. The reasoning is that these kids have been through so much already, they shouldn't have to adjust to a big move to a region with different customs and dialect. On top of that, families who lost their own children in the quake are supposed to be given top priority, and after those come families who are unable to have children. There are way more families wanting to adopt earthquake orphans than there are actual orphans to go around. You have to have a reasonable amount of income in order to adopt a child in China, so I'm unclear as to what they'd be saving these children from. Sure it would be nice to grow up as American royalty but no one needs that. Kids need stable, loving homes, and if they can get that without being uprooted to another country, even the Jolie-Pitts of the world should not stand in the way.

Of course it's probably just rumors anyhow, National Enquirer not exactly being the epitome of journalistic integrity, but food for thought nonetheless.
