As long as the kid cares for the hair they have, it shouldn't be an issue. It's the same policy my parents used for my sister and I. I remember my sister was about five and had to have six inches cut off her hair because she didn't brush it often enough and it got all ratty. After that, she's always been very careful about her hair, and it's still halfway down her back now that she's seventeen.&lt;/p&gt;
