some of people you all mentioned died earlier and were in previous montages, dorothy mcguire died in 2001, weaver, de carlo, boyle were in 2007 montage as they died in 2006 or early 2007 as did smith. kerr was in this year's montage near the end! 2008 did leave out charles lane which is just wrong and renfro! renay also died in jan. 2007 so could have been in last year's montage, patterson could have been included as he was in movies before tv career.

what is sad is that recently a good friend of my parents died. 2/14/2007 his name was Lee Patterson. If you watched One Life to Live then you know who is. He starred in Airplane II. He also was in "The Last Days of Patton" with Goerge C. Scott...so if the Oscars want to blow him off, I'll let people know!

Peter Boyle was left out even though they showed a clip of him in "Young Frankenstein" in memory of some make-up artist. If that isn't insulting, I don't know what is.

I was more pissed that they left out Liz Renay, star of "Desperate Living", one-time Hollywood starlet and media celebrity. But Brad Renfro is a major omission too, and I guess if he can't get in the montage, then Liz had no chance. I have no problem with the Oscars recognizing behind-the-scenes people like the makeup guy from "Young Frankenstein", etc... but to leave out people that actually have loads of fans worldwide is pretty pathetic.

I have been looking for this information also and am surprised that it is not on the oscar website. thanx for posting it. And honestly I thought they would do something special for heath and brad and maybe even anna nicole, like a "too young" tribute, it's one thing when people are 102....but when they have movies coming out in the next year it would have been nice to see some more recognition. i haven't timed it but i think heath actually had the least amount of screen time for his spot

I was also shocked to see there is no mention on the Oscar website about "In Memoriam", and how there was no time to "squeeze" some people in. They did however, find time to have a minute of footage regarding binoculars and telescopes, and people waking up in fear. Hollywood priorities, I guess?

I was searching for a site with the 'in memoriam' portion of the Oscars and found so many that had so little, more surprising the official Oscar site has absolutely nothing about this section of the program. It is truly startling that what some folks wore to the evening takes precedence over those who have contributed, some over decades, it just makes no sense to me? The Vanity Fair 'video' I searched about In Memoriam was truly sad, and the fact that they endorsed it and the article that went with it, even more sad, what were they thinking? Your article here, while blatent, hopefully demonstrates the lack of respect by the Academy. Their few responses regarding Brad Renfro's absence were biz talk, if it had have been an icon of some kind, they would have managed to 'squeeze' it in there, thank you for being upfront with your thoughts. We are not alone.

Overlooked was veteran film actor Charles Lane who passed away July 9, 2007 at age 102, starred in many major motion pictures such as ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE, THE MUSIC MAN and literally hundreds of other recognizable TV & film roles.

Well, for the second Oscars in a row, they left out Yvonne De Carlo who was probably most known as "Lily Munster" but was in movies starring opposite Clark Gable, John Wayne, etc. It's mind boggling why they haven't included her.

And Deborah Kerr was definately snubbed. No need to explain, I'm sure.
