Axel is walking. Well, sort of. I feel like I make a disclaimer about every developmental milestone - he rolls and then refuses to roll again for weeks. He starts high fiving all over the place and then refuses to make contact with even his grandparents' friendly hands.
He has taken some steps, and he can string five or so together in a row - enough to travel from coffee table to chair, or from parent to hardwood floor face plant. But he does not believe that walking should be recorded in film. Maybe he thinks his soul is more vulnerable when he's in motion? Whatever the reason, almost soon as he sees the shiny silver camera, he drops to his knees and crawls over so that he can take a bite out of the camera. A nasty little cold that's morphing into some devilish croup made him even less willing to walk on command. Maybe the problem is that I'm encouraging him. He cheerfully does all the things I tell him not to do - dump over the dog's water bowl, grab the cat's tail, eat leaves.

So, with all my enthusiastic encouragement and Axel's barking cough, it's been a little challenging to document any wobbly baby steps. But we still wanted to share something with all of you - something nicer than our booger and cough-producing germs. Here's a little footage of the few steps I've been able to capture. Though these aren't Axel's best, they show him putting one unsteady foot in front of the other.
