"Project Runway" contestant Laura Bennett, 43, gave birth to her sixth child, and fifth son, last week in Manhattan.
Several things are amazing to me in that sentence.
First off, it is no small miracle that a 43-year-old woman can give birth to a healthy baby, after healthy pregnancy – that is truly awe-inspiring, and a tremendous achievement in itself.
Add to that the fact that this 43-year-old mother of five had the tenacity – the balls, if you will - to go for one more kid. More power to her and all that, but honestly, what does she do with that many kids? How does she get anything done? Is she running her own sweatshop, or what?
Add to that fact that this 43-year-old mother of five already had four sons, ranging in age from 4 to 10. She should get some kind of award for having the energy to clip her toenails, let alone compete in a reality T.V. show, while cookin’ up another bun in the oven - another boy! As the mother of two girls, I’ve only experienced the manic energy of young boys second hand, but from what I’ve seen, three would be enough to drive most people to the edge of crazy. But five? Laura Bennett must be some kind of saint. That, or she’s a complete lunatic. Either way.
Add to that fact that this 43-year-old mother of five boys, and one teenage girl, lives in Manhattan, one of the most expensive cities in the world. A city where most people can barely afford the rent on their dingy one bedrooms in shitty neighborhoods. Can you imagine what an apartment big enough to house a family of eight looks like? Neither can I.
Add all these facts about Laura Bennett up, and what do you get? Um, not much, really. A few snarky paragraphs about a woman who’s achieved more with her time, and her uterus, than I care dream about. She goes by the name Laura Bennett, but I like to call her Super Woman. Or Super Crazy Woman. (Depends on the day.)
You go on, with your mad breeding skillz, girl!
