Stefani's 'Rasta Boy' Lives Up To His Name - Does Your Kid?

Posted by Alisyn

Pop star mom Gwen Stefani told Elle magazine that her 7-month-old son lives up to the name she gave him.  "Total Rasta boy," she said.  "Kingston is so chill.  He gives me real balance.  You could go 100 miles an hour, but you still have to stop and hang out with him."

Kingston is named for the capitol city of Jamaica, the city whose culture has most strongly influenced Gwen's musical tastes (remember when No Doubt was a ska band, and Gwen performed in a cheerleader's uniform?  No?  Then you didn't grow up in SoCal in the late 80's.)

Is it a classic case of boy fitting name, or name fitting boy?  And would a Kingston by any other name be as chill?

My husband and I gave both our girls botanical names and (is it just us?) each girl's name suits her personality perfectly.  Violet, 19 months, is fair and petite, with a vibrant, but mellow personality - tell me, is that not the perfect description of an actual violet?  And Hazel, 4, has a golden hue to her, with a disposition that is both spiky and sweet - there is more to her than meets the eye, much like the flowering witch hazel.  I know a little girl named Stella who is just that - a shining star; I know a little boy named Fox who is as mischievous and adorable as you'd think; I know a newborn named Berlin who is... well, the jury's still out on that one (cool name though, don't you think?).

Do you find that your kid lives up to his/her name?  Do you find that your son/daughter's name has grown to fit him/her better or worse than you thought it would?  Are you one of those rare parents who feels that their son/daughter's name doesn't fit them at all?  Please share your thoughts in the comments, and feed my baby names obsession!

do you think that maybe this is people picking certain characteristics from their child to fit to the name and ignoring others.

As for Berlin, yeah, Im not sure i could tell you what supposed characteristics that child should have either...and what about Paula Yates's kids Fifi Trixiebelle, Peaches Honeyblossom and Pixie?  Makes my brain feel all wobbly just trying to figure it out.

A cousin of my husband and his wife named one of their kids Maisie.

All I can think is that the poor child will one day grow up to be a go-getting badass woman, and she'll be saddled with this childish name while climbing some corporate ladder.

Some names seem to predestine one for a certain kind of life...

Though I guess if Gwen Stefani wants her little guy to be chillin' in Jamaica, so be it.
