Tons of dog and cat food is being frantically yanked off store shelves all over the
U.S., Canada, and Mexico because Menu Foods, the manufacturer of over 40 brands of popular
pet foods like IAMS, Nutro, and Eukanuba has disclosed that their food has been making pets sick.
An "undisclosed" number of dogs and cats have been reported as having
kidney failure and about 10 pets have died as a result of eating the
tainted food. A complete list of the recalled products (mostly
the "cuts and gravy" style food, not dry food) along with product codes,
descriptions and production dates is available from the Menu Foods Web
site, http://www.menufoods.com/recall, or you can also call (866) 895-2708.
The affected brands were sold at major retailers such as Wal-Mart,
Kroger, Safeway, and pet stores like Petsmart and Petco, sold between Dec. 3 and Mar. 6.
Check
your pet's food, please. Now! (I'll wait here.)
Symptoms of kidney failure include not eating, increased drinking and
urinating, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting. So far
the manufacturer doesn't know what is causing the problem beyond a
possible tie to wheat gluten.
Gonna go pet my kitties now.
