Instead of passing out those cheap-ass diaper bags filled with formula coupons to new moms, hospitals would do well to create something akin to the new Simplymilk⢠Breastfeeding Care Kit. I would've smuggled them out in my luggage by the dozens.
Created by a nursing mom who thought of almost* everything, the kits come stocked with a burp cloth, a La Leche League nursing guide, breast pads, a MilkBands nursing bracelet, Mother's Milk tea, and
a cool/warm pack. The price ($66) seems a tad high, but when I think back to my first weeks of nursing my older daughter, I remember having to send my husband or mom to Target at least every other day stuff that is included here. It would have been really nice to have it all at home, waiting for me and my babe in a cute little basket. I don't love that the kits are called "Simplymillk;" it implies that
breastfeeding is simple, or will be with this kit, which is not the
case for many women. But I'm a stickler like that.
This would make a fabulous, functional Mother's Day gift for a first time mama, and would be easy to customize by throwing in a pair of cashmere socks, a new, cozy bathrobe, or a few books or CDs for those late-night feedings.
*I would have included a Bob Marley CD, extra strength Tylenol and a bottle of wine.
