Note to Celebrity Would-Be Parents: Adopting Foreign Children Begins Downhill Slide from A-List to the B-List

Posted by Kelly Mills

pamela andersonI’m pretty sure the celebrity trend of adopting children from other countries is going the way of Kabbalah and really long hair extensions. While Angelina made it chic, and Madonna made it controversial, now Pamela Anderson’s musings in her online diary make me wonder if she plans to bring home a Russian orphan or two. When B-lister Pam jumps on a trend, well, it’s only a matter of time before we hear about Tara Reid trying to smuggle home an infant from a far-off land. The orphan version of the lottery may be coming to an end. Sorry Paris, you missed the boat on this one.

While Pam made the trek to Moscow to host the MTV Russian Film Awards and to campaign for animal rights, once she was there she thought she’d pop into the local orphanage and browse for visit the children. She describes the experience as “sad but inspiring”. The kids, she says, are “happy despite having nothing – really nothing, including parents.” Wait a minute- you mean these kids in the orphanage don’t even have parents?

But before you rush out and look up her baby registry, she does go on to say, “It's very difficult to adopt from Russia unless you are Russian or living in Russia.” What kind of talk is that, Pam? Has the breakup with Kid Rock completely shaken your confidence? Angelina doesn’t seem to be having any trouble bringing home babies from anywhere. Next you’ll be telling me you can’t get a table at the Four Seasons without a reservation…

I just read in Star Magazine that Paris Hilton was hoping to adopt a baby small enough to carry in her handbag but abandoned the idea when someone explained that babies grow up. She didn't think anything larger than an infant would fit in her Berkin bag and if it did, it might crush her Sidekick.
