I smell a comeback...
First,
the dramatic weight loss. Then, the increasingly frequent chats
with paparazzi, and monologues on her website. Now, with the
announcement of a Christie's auction of her late husband Kurt Cobain's
personal possessions, and a new solo album due this summer, Courtney
Love is attempting to make the most of the second third latest chance that life has given her.
Topping her to-do list as a newly svelte, sober woman and mom? Letting go of Kurt's personal things.
"[My
house] is like a mausoleum... My daughter doesn't need to inherit a
giant Hefty bag full of flannel f---ing shirts," she says. "A sweater,
a guitar and the lyrics to '[Smells Like] Teen Spirit' – that's what my
daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just f---ing sell."
Out
with the old, to make room for the new. No official word on what
Kurt and Courtney’s daughter Frances, now 14, thinks about letting
strangers bid on her dad’s legacy, but Courtney told Spinner.com that
“Everyone's been positive and behind me on it… we'll make a lot of
money and give a bunch of it to charity."
It’s been more than 12
years since Kurt committed suicide at home in Seattle –so why the
sudden purge of his mementos, clothing, instruments, etc.? "I still
wear his pajamas to bed," Courtney admitted. "How am I ever going to go
form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pajamas?"
You can't argue with that.
If
this helps Courtney let go of a piece of her painful past, and reach a
better place in her life, than I'm all for it. Courtney has had
it rough from the get-go: an unstable childhood, drug addiction,
depression, losing a husband to suicide, raising a daughter alone - and
all of it under the harsh glare of the media. She seems to be
taking steps to overcome her past, and that must be painful. I
say good luck to her, and to her daughter, Frances. I hope their
little family makes it.
Here's to second, and third, and fourth, chances. And may we all be as lucky as Courtney has been.
