Bloggers Whip 'Em Out in Support of Maggie Gyllenhaal

Posted by Alisyn

Suck it, haters!

In response to the "that's gross!" and "cover up!" shit-talkers who swarmed StrollerDerby yesterday to comment on Sarah's post about Maggie Gyllenhaal nursing in public, bloggers are putting their best breasts forward in solidarity with the actress, and nursing mamas everywhere.

A virtual nurse-in!  God, I love the internet.

The Queen of Spain is, like many of us, sick and tired of the breastfeeding-in-public debate.  She says, "It’s just a boob...  JUST A BOOB. I’ve written about this issue so many times now... I do not know what else to say to all you asshats that seem to think my tit exposed to feed my child is baaaaaaaaaaad.  You are also forcing me to resort to drastic measures."

Karl followed suit (man-boob solidarity, is, indeed, needed and appreciated), as did Violet, Summer, Keri, and others.  If I had a photo of myself nursing (my toddler! gasp!), I'd post it, but I can't find one that shows enough boob.

I'm not interested in opening up a new debate on public breastfeeding here,  I think we had enough of that yesterday.  I'm just happy to see so many people storming the blogosphere in support of it.  So cool.  Breast feeders of the world, unite!

I love the look on Maggie's face in this shot, she looks so in love.  That's what I find striking about the picture.

If you take a photo of yourself nursing, and you can't see boob, it's probably time to wean the kid.

Oh my god! I thought the Magie pic was so sweet.

But the fucking illustration attatched to this post?! It's horrifying! I'm due this summer and now I am honestly creeped out by breast-feeding. I'm still going to do it - but damn - I would have been much better off never having seen that disembodied swollen breast and monstrous sucking baby.

You'll get over it.

I nursed in public all the time and I would tell my husband ... "If it was an elbow that the milk came out of there would be no controversy! " Go Maggie!

Puritans unite! Maggie Gyllenhaal has boobs . And you're not going to believe this -- are you ready? She uses them to feed. her. children. Next she'll want to push a kid out of her lady business, or perform some other wholly unnatural act. Crazy Hollywood

I don't quite get what the problem is. I live in Europe (Germany) and it is not an issue here. I don't see how in a liberal, western country with lots of bare skin in the media this can be such a big deal. Everyone almost everywhere seems to agree it's best for a baby or at least that it's a legitimate choice to breastfeed. So how is a mother to do it? Not leave the house?

It's hard to think of anything more innocent than breastfeeding. So I can understand that it can be hard for a mum to expose her boob in public because normally she wouldn't, and I have never seen anyone not trying to be discreet about it. But how can it be such a problem for onlookers? When it is so clear no provocation can be intended? Just a hungry baby, come on!

Getting a bit tired of this... frankly, I don't give a rat's ass if you breast feed or don't.

If you breastfeed, great.  It doesn't make you the madonna, and it doesn't make you, or your baby, better than the mom & baby that don't breast feed.

If you don't breastfeed, great.  It doesn't make you or your baby better than the mom & baby that do breast feed.

It's all about choices, and having chocies is one of the benefits of living in a technological society.
