I don't know if I've mentioned how difficult summer vacation is for me. No kids in the neighborhood, no place to store outdoor toys and a small yard leave us with few options for play at home. We spend a lot of time out of the house in the summer but I work from home and have to fit that in too. Sometimes, it's just easier to give the kids free reign over the television or computer. Which apparently means I'll eventually have obese kids.
Utah would like to get kids to unplug and go play and so they'll be unveiling the "Unplug N Play" program. How did they come up with that name? The program is aimed at parents and kids and suggests one hour of screen time for kids. Shelli Olsen, in the article, doesn't need a cleverly named program to help her limit her kid's TV and computer time, she's got a one hour "tops" rule all year long. Jennifer Bright has Shelli beat however, her kids are allowed just 45 minutes a day. In your face Olsen!
Frankie Duke, a grandmother says her daughter's don't let their kids watch one or two shows a day and goes on, ""I think their mothers do struggle and I think it's hard for them to find other things to do & you have to prepare crafts and things," she said.
Crafts? Oh God, I'm screwed.
