Spiffy News About Jack's Big Music Show

Posted by ChagHolland

Fans of Jack's Big Music Show, your wishes have finally been answered: Viacom will release a compilation DVD, Let's Rock!, on October 23, 2007. The DVD will contain four episodes: the premiere episode "Little Bad Wolf," "Groundhog Day," which starred Jon Stewart and featured a music video by a bald Steve from Blue's Clues and The Flaming Lips' Steve Drozd, "How Mel Got His Groove Back," and "Jack And The Bean Stalk," a never-before-seen episode.

While I'm pleased they're finally releasing a DVD from the show, I'm still somewhat disappointed. My kids and I have been big fans of this show since it premiered on Noggin in 2005. I even tracked down the show's creators and interviewed them earlier this year. But where is all the merchandise? Viacom has only issued a CD and this DVD. My son would kill for a Jack stuffed animal. Considering you can buy anything with Dora, Diego, or The Backyardigans plastered all over it, it would be nice for Viacom to throw Jack (or Mel) a bone.

I would buy a Mel doll.

For my husband.

I think he and I both love the show more than our daughter does. Great to know there's a DVD coming!

Funny, I was recently saying to my husband how glad I was that Jack's Big Music Show wasn't going the big merchandising route. For me it kinda keeps the show special instead of feeling like a creepy money-grubbing venture. Some merch could be cool (like a DVD and maybe a couple dolls), but I think it'd be better if it were minimal. I'm so turned off by all the branded crap out there!

If they haven't merchandised by now, it's might be too late, as it appears that Yo Gabba Gabba is diminishing their audience, and they have Paul Frank designed merchandising on their way in time for X-mas (which means in a month or so.)

A couple months ago, my son would've loved a Jack or Mel (or even Mary) doll/shirt/etc, but since YGG came on a couple weeks ago, he could care less about the show.... and I know he's not the only one.

Every time a new show comes out that my son loves I try to find merchandise, but it comes out really slow.  Would you believe there was a time, a long time in the mind of a little kid, that there wasn't any Backyardigan shwag available?

Unlike movies, they seem to actually wait and see if there is a demand for merchandise, which I guess is the right way, but damn, you gotta move faster if you want the fickle kid market.

Um, well I totally disagree. My son is obsessed with JBMS. He has been watching it since he was 3 months old. He will be 1 year old in a few weeks and I am so bummed I can't get him any JBMS merchandise! And as for Yo Gabba Gabba, my son has no interest. JBMS has a "classic" feel to it. So I believe it will get and keep a huge audience. Its not too late for merchandise bring it on!!!

JBMS anything would delight my nephew who is now Two YRS old. As soon as he wakes up he often says, "Jack Jack?" He said Jack before momma. My nephew has been watching Jack since he started watching t.v. He knows every dance, and joins in frequently. As of today in order to pry him away from anything a two year old refuses to leave.... We simply promise him "Jack, Jack" and he is delighted.

For his second birthday I photo copied JBMS pictures, blew them up on a printer and affixed them to his wrapping paper. HE LOVED IT.

SO when already will there be a Jack, Mel or Grumpy for My nephew to carry around?

My grandson loves JBMS and wants a drum set like Mels.  He is only allowed one hour of tv a day.  He use to ask for the wiggles but now everthing is Jack.  I would love to see anything in time for Christmas
