Say these words and feel your shoulders relax "Formula Fed and Flexible Parenting"... Aahhhhh. Doesn't that feel great? Well read this blog of Alex Elliott's and you'll feel even better...
There are some crazy strong feelings out there about breast versus formula feeding and so I read with interest of Ms. Elliott's recent attendance at a breastfeeding conference...
Her reactions as described mirror my own (and apparently those of many conference attendees). Simply put, breastfeeding is of course a wonderful goal, but so many mothers cannot or do not feed their children this way and are then made to feel guilty about their choice. One woman at the conference stood and encouraged women to bring their babies to work so that they could "do it all."
And it's this, exactly this moment, that makes so many of us cringe. Women, already under so much pressure don't need to be encouraged to "do it all." Many of us go off our rails trying to do it all, when really "good enough" is just right. Ms. Elliott encourages readers to take a more middling approach and one with far more compassion and understanding than "breast is best." A wise person put it this way: "It's not what you feed your child, but how you feed her that matters."
Ultimately, I left the conference with the same conviction that got me
to the conference - parents need to make sure that their babies are fed.
