Tis the Season to Watch TV

Posted by Gwynne Watkins

What, November is too early for holiday specials? Nonsense! Start yourself off tonight with the brand-new Shrek the Halls (8pm on ABC), followed by Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated one, a.k.a. the good one). NBC is competing by airing the Rockefeller Center tree lighting, complete with performances by Celine Dion and Carrie Underwood (yeahhh... we'll pass). Over on Nickelodeon, it seems like everyone's doing a "save Christmas" episode: Dora and Diego on December 7th, Wonder Pets and Wow Wow Wubzy on the 14th, Yo Gabba Gabba on the 21st. PBS Kids is a little less Santa-centric, with Calillou building his first snowman and Clifford celebrating Hanukah. (And let's not forget November's Mama Mirabelle episode about Kwanzaa.)  Classic specials include A Charlie Brown Christmas on ABC and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on CBS. No word yet on which station has It's a Wonderful Life or A Christmas Story.

Which holiday specials do you watch every year? And which ones would you be happy never to see again?
