I covered a coma-birth story once before, and it had a nice ending with the mom coming out of the coma and ultimately getting to go home with her family. This one is unfortunately much more tragic. Ronkeysha Thomas was out with friends in Palm Beach County when her friends heard popping sounds, like fireworks. Ronkeysha fell to the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, and went into a coma. She was eight months pregnant at the time.
The doctors delivered her baby by emergency Caesarean section, a 4-pound, 9-ounce boy, according to his grandmother. Ronkeysha remains in a coma. She is 19 years old, and a high school student. It sounds like her son has family to care for him, but obviously it's a real sad story at this point. Police are still looking for suspects in the shooting.
