For anyone who thought only women in episodes of "Lost" can get pregnant after battling cancer, here is some encouraging news. A story on CNN.com says that more cancer survivors are not only overcoming the disease, but conceiving and having children.
The ability to get pregnant while in remission depends on several factors, including the type of cancer one has, sensitivity to hormones and other issues. But if you have successfully beaten the disease, or know someone who has, this is proof that mommyhood is definitely still an option.
The key, as the article points out, is to discuss the issue with your doctor. For some reason, I am often reticent to ask my doctor too many questions even though her job is to address my health issues. I always feel like I am bothering her if I ask why my feet are swelling AND complain about headaches in the same visit. This is a female thing, I suspect. Some of us women are so apologetic, we say sorry for things we haven't even done yet.
But it never, ever hurts to ask. And as this story proves, sometimes the answer we get back could change our lives -- for the positive.
