Machines Are Labor-Saving Devices!

Posted by Adrienne Martini

Every pregnant woman has wished that she could just sub-contract the whole labor-and-delivery part of the event. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, she can!

Well, maybe not yet. But once you read about all of the fun tricks this creepy robot can do to simulate a birth -- including moaning, screaming and grunting -- you realize that growing babies in vats really can't be far behind.

Noelle, can have her innards violated in any number of ways during the labor. The baby's shoulders can get stuck. Noelle's blood pressure can spike and she'll have seizures. Plus she has four cervixes to choose from, plus three vulvas for post-partum sewing practice. I'm thinking she's also a big hit at parties.

The simulated baby, however, is sold separately.

We had one of those at the hospital where I worked (as a program manager in Women's Health), we calld her Bertha.  The clinical specialists (RNs who educate RNs) loved it but it never got a lot of use.  I ended up having to share my office with it b/c it was so big there wasn't a storage cabinet big enough for it.  I threw a sheet over its head so the creepy face wouldn't distract me.  brrr! Thanks for bringing back such a freaky memory! :-)
